About the Course

An introductory pattern cutting class aimed at complete beginners wanting to create their own garments.

Who is this course for
Learn the essentials of flat pattern cutting. This short introductory pattern cutting class is aimed at complete beginners wanting to create their own garments. Starting with your personal set of measurements you will learn how to create a basic skirt 'block pattern' to fit you. This can then be used to create endless patterns for your own designs. On this course you will learn how to create a simple 'A' line skirt perfect for your summer wardrobe.

You can learn how to adapt these templates further by adding flare, creating exciting silhouettes, adding design detail by progressing onto our BTEC Award in Pattern Cutting in the Autumn Term.

This course is for anyone who has an interest in fashion who wants to learn to make their own blocks and patterns for dress-making. You can be a complete beginner at pattern cutting and do not need to have any previous experience. You will need to be able to do simple calculations, to use rulers and other measuring equipment. Places are limited so sign up as soon as possible and be sure to scroll down to see what you will need.

What does this course cover
Initially you will be taught how to take accurate body measurements using these to make your own size skirt block. You will learn how to adapt the 'block' to make an A Line skirt. Students will be expected to collect their own inspiration for their skirt designs.

By the end of the course students should be able to:
1. Be able to take accurate body measurements.
2. Learn how to draft the skirt block to your own measurements.
3. Understand how to make adaptions to your skirt block.
4. Understand and use garment making terminology
