Characters are vital to fiction; long after the book has been placed back on the shelf, it is the impact of those characters who remain engrained in our mind.
This two-hour 100% online workshop will help you establish the fundamentals of character development in your creative writing.
It’s aimed at anyone interested in creative writing, whether you have done any previous writing before or are a complete beginner.
You will look at how to most effectively create engaging characters for fictional writing, and how to create them in such a way that readers adore or despise them.
During the course you will:
- examine why characters are important to the plot
- discuss how to create characters in an effective way
- take part in a dynamic group discussion on effective crime writing
- complete writing tasks from prompts
- gain feedback on your writing style.
What will I gain?
By the end of the session you will have built confidence in your character development, creative writing skills and have some new ideas to further pursue your writing.
Level: Beginner / Intermediate
Entry requirement: No previous experience is necessary.
Here's what our previous attendees said:
'Enjoyed everything, the tasks were really good and thought provoking.' LA
'An informal and informative way for a writer to spend 2 hours. I think the course is well proportioned: a mix of information and acting on the information with feedback and commentary.' SJ
'Really enjoyed the 2-hour evening session. It fits really well around working full time and allows me some time to myself to get into writing and talk with others. This is the second of Charlotte's course I have done and the third in total during the last six months. They have been so great and have really been so useful and helpful.' CN
'Having a short window (and self-permission!) to enjoy some creativity while learning at the same time is enjoyable. The course sparked lots of ideas I can work on afterwards, too. It's just nice connecting with other writer-types and fiction lovers - so more discussion is always inspiring! I really enjoy these short courses, which are perfect for fitting into a busy schedule. Charlotte is warm and enthusiastic, as is really good at summing up what I'm trying to articulate! She's also excellent at deconstructing topics, so it's easier to take the challenges forward and consider things from all angles.' AC
