Comprehensive Sewing with Thread and Press (4 weeks)

Garment fitting to the stand

About the Course

Comprehensive Sewing is a fantastic sewing course in Cottingham, East Riding of Yorkshire. On this 4 week course we will teach you everything you need to know about how to use a sewing machine, measure and fit, draft a pattern to your own measurements, and make a finished garment.
There is also the opportunity to work on some furnishing projects.
Session run by an experience fashion teacher and pattern cutter.

This course will show you the basics of sketching and designing a garment for your project. Beginners will be guided through the safe use of a sewing machine and dressmaking techniques. More advanced sewers can be guided straight into their first project.

We will show you how to measure and draft a pattern to your own measurements. Once you have created your pattern we will show you how to make a toile (a sample garment in basic fabric) and fit your garment to a stand. Once you are happy with your toile, we will show you how to cut and assemble a pattern from your chosen fabric (we provide fabric for toiles but you would choose and supply your own dress-making fabric).

We also show you how to embellish and add to your garment to add those perfect finishing touches. We support you through every stage of designing and creating your garment, from the very beginning to the end.

We provide sewing machines for you to use and can show you how to use them safely and effectively.

This course is suitable for beginners or more intermediate sewers. We follow government guidance on social distancing and the use of face masks in public settings (subject to change at the time of course commencing). All materials are provided, although you have the option of also bringing your own chosen fabrics to work on.

Parking provided.

Thread and Press were established with the mission to bring creative opportunities to all, including those in more rural environments. We gladly welcome learners of ALL abilities and circumstances. Older children aged 13 are welcome if accompanied by an adult (both would need to book onto the course).
