Six places maximum
Suitable for confident beginners and anyone wanting to improve their creativity, expand their general art knowledge and try some new techniques
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
This five-week course focuses on how to use colour, using your instincts and creating a large expressionistic painting. To start we'll loosen up and work from the gut creating colourful Mindful dreamscapes exploring line, tone and expressionistic mark-making. We'll then work through some colour theory and play, looking at composition, applying colour and creating colour contrast in acrylics on paper and or canvas. Finally, we'll create a landscape piece full of energy, light and colour celebrating everything we've learnt going from blank canvas to complete painting in the last two sessions.
The session includes all materials and equipment (except brushes), tuition and venue hire.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO BRING
Brushes are always best looked after by their owners - therefore please bring along a range of large brushes including: a 1-2” decorators brush, something like a number 8 long filbert bristle brush or large short flat brush, and one smaller round brush. The Daler Rowney Graduate brush range is very good. The Windsor & Newton Winton Short Flat no 20 is an alternative to the decorators brush but a little more expensive. You’ll need to wear suitable clothing. An A4+ sketchbook is also useful but not essential. You will need to bring lunch and a hand towel.
NB: - a Lateral Flow Test must be taken at home before entering the studio
Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 2 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.
All materials & equipment except brushes.
5 weeks (6:30pm to 8:30pm)

Thoroughly enjoyed this - it gave me the confidence to experiment with acrylics using a much larger paintbrush than I'd have imagined using before, learning how to build up layers of paint with different brush strokes to create an acceptable picture. Louise is a very competent and capable teacher, she explains the process clearly from start to finish and is so inspiring! I'm really looking forward to another workshop!!
Response from Louise Burdett Artist:Thank you so much Fiona - looking forward to seeing Thursday for our Human Face & Portraiture course. Always a pleasure x
I had a brilliant time and I learnt so much about the layering process. Louise was so helpful and welcoming and I really enjoyed meeting her and the other people at the workshop. Highly recommend her courses and I look forward to doing another in the future!
Response from Louise Burdett Artist:Thanks so much Rosie. It was a pleasure to have you on the workshop and I will look forward to seeing you again and following your own artistic journey. x
The course was well run and we were very Covid safety conscious. Louis had made sure we all had a safe workspace to work in. We all produced an exceptable painting of South Beach Tenby and I for one learnt about using different colours for different effects. It was good value for money and interesting to see that although we all worked from the same painting the results were quite different
Response from Louise Burdett Artist:Thanks so much Maggie - glad you enjoyed the colour work and the workshop in general. Hope to see you again soon. x
Louise had gone to great lengths to ensure a safe environment with ample space and fresh air.
The course itself was very well run; with small class numbers I felt that we all had the attention that we needed, and it was great to see so many people produce complete paintings under Louise's tuition. Although we used her original painting to work from, each one had it's subtle differences.
Response from Louise Burdett Artist:Thanks so much Tina - it was a pleasure to spend the day with you. Hope to see you again. x
