Collectors' Bear Making Weekend

About the Course
This weekend (optional residency) course teaches all aspects of traditional teddy-bear making, using only the finest quality materials. The course runs from 10.00-4.00pm on Saturday and Sunday, during which you will learn how to create a 5" fully jointed mohair teddy bear with glass eyes and filled with stuffing and steel shot. You can choose from a wide range of coloured mohairs and ultra suede ears and pads to create a completely individual bear with his own unique expression. The bears are completely hand stitched using a firm back-stitch, knowledge of which is essential. No other skills are needed, making this course ideal for beginners.
The course is run by Lyn Roberts, bear artist of Boo Bears Cumbria,, whose highly collectable bears are sold through specialist retailers across Cumbria. Please note these are not children's toys.
If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above or telephone us. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
What's included in the price?
All tools and materials, as well as tea, coffee and biscuits and cake are included. We have a small tea-room area where optional lunch can be served for a small price. Did we mention we love cake? We have plenty of on-site free parking.
If you are travelling some distance, accommodation can be made available (subject to availability) at our nearby guest-house at a specially discounted rate to participants (shared or single accommodation).
I warmly recommend this course. My friend and I had a lovely weekend spent making a charming little bear in a beautiful part of England! Lyn helped us all to create a jointed bear in our choice of mohair. All materials are included in the cost of the course, making it good value for money. Lyn is an excellent teacher - patient and very encouraging. Most of us were new to bear-making, but we all went home having completed our own bear, each with their own character. To finish, we had to 'stick at it' over the two days and some of us had a bit of stitching to complete as 'homework', but the finished bears were well worth it!
The number on the course is limited and Lyn ensured that we received individual attention when we needed it, as well as keeping us well-supplied with tea and coffee.
My friend and I stayed at Kathy's guesthouse. We enjoyed her hospitality and cooking, and fell in love with her two dogs!
