About the Course
Villages of the Charente and Trees of Plenty
6 day residential, Parfait dyed base fabric with collaging and printing.
We will be inspired by the colours of the Charente landscape, from the stunning mature orchard and surrounding countryside at Sweet Nothings to the wonderful houses and buildings in the area. We will visit beautiful surrounding villages or towns and photograph and / or sketch places of interest to be transformed into collage. The finished piece will involve creating small print blocks and looking at fabric painting and both free-motion and hand of embroidery to enhance the work. A real joy to put together and work on.
About the tutor, Jane Charles, in her own words.
I am a textile artist and tutor working on a variety of projects in and around Milton Keynes.
I have a degree in Fashion and Textiles from Leicester Polytechnic and have designed in a variety of areas including: a Design/manufacturing company in Leicester; making costumes for a Contemporary Dance company and for a Performing Arts Department of Leicester Polytechnic.
For the last 10 years I’ve been exploring the medium of Creative Textiles, and I’m addicted. I teach textiles part-time in adult education and often do large projects in primary schools in the area. I love sharing my skills, enthusiasm and inspiration with people of all ages. I do a lot of dyeing for my base fabrics, often create print blocks and then work in a number of ways with collage and then free-motion machine or hand embroidery. I am a member of the Contemporary Quilters Guild and Embroiderers Guild, have exhibited at the Festival of Quilts in Birmingham. I do talks for embroidery groups and in the last 2 years have been heavily involved in promoting textiles in a gallery I run in Milton Keynes.
Having recently visited Natalie, Lawrence and Stan the dog at Sweet Nothings, I’m delighted to be offering workshops inspired by their wonderful farmhouse in the glorious setting of the Charente region of France.
