Spend a couple of days creating a figurative sculpture in clay.
Sculpt a gesture study in water-based clay, using direct observation of a life model.
Poppy will provide you with one-on-one critique and, as a group, you will cover a range of topics including working from life, setting a pose, relating the armature, and how to establish proportions.
Group Bookings / Bubble Bookings Only.
3-4 participants required.
Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 2 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.
Life model and all materials provided. Hardwood modelling tools on loan for those without their own, and a “take home” armature so that you can continue sculpting at home.
On reopening after Lockdown, my main priority is to ensure the wellbeing of the life-model and course participants. To this end, I am currently implementing the following measures to keep the studio safe:
- Deep cleaning prior to each workshop.
- Model stands and “take-home” armatures disinfected.
- Prepared and disinfected 2kg bags of water-based clay.
- Prepared and disinfected individual “snack bags” ft. tea, coffee, fruit, cereal bars etc.
- Appropriate distance between students' and model’s stands.
Lunch can be provided upon request. It prepared by a local cook, Pippa Huges. Pippa’s menu (which is adaptable to any dietary restrictions / preferences) costs £18.00 for two courses or £25.00 for three courses. Her menu is:
- Starters: Melon, tomato and prosciutto salad or tomato and burrata salad
- Mains: Teriyaki salmon with rice noodle and cucumber salad or Sticky Asian pork belly with coconut rice and pickled vegetables
- Pudding: Salted caramel brownie or, lemon and ginger cheese cake

Amazing time, really enjoyed learning something new. Course was great, Can't wait to do this again, because one day wasnt enough x
It was so good I actually kept recommending it to random people at my work (who had nothing to do with art at all)!
But seriously, overall experience was amazing. Poppy made us feel comfortable at her lovely studio, she was very well prepared with a choice of armature to model on, and with well equipped work space for everyone. The amount of knowledge she shared with us was just right, enough to make sure that our sculptures resemble human being but not overwhelming. Her teaching style is also positive and constructive.
She is also very easily approachable and in general nice person to chat to.
Thanks Poppy!
Really enjoyed this course and can thoroughly recommend it. Poppy is a great teacher and all three of us came away delighted with what we had achieved. The day is well organised, the lunch is delicious and it was a relaxing environment to work in.
Spent a wonderful day at Warren Park Heritage and Craft Centre in Poppy’s studio. Poppy’s passion for sculpting is reflected in her ease of teaching. My friends and I felt relaxed and well informed. The COVID procedures were very good. We had a delicious lunch prepared by Pippa who was also our delightful life model. It was a bonus to leave with a recognisable armature! I would highly recommend this course. Thank you Poppy and Pippa!!
I received this course as a gift from family, who were looking to give me a unique experience. And what a wonderful experience it was! Poppy was passionate and kind, helping me understand both the theory and practice of sculpting. My final sculpture was even palatable enough to take home as a memento. I highly recommend that this course goes on everybody's bucket list!
Poppy is incredibly hard working and committed towards her work, which (I think) is one of the most inspiring qualities for a student to look up to.
She is a very passionate sculptor and has the profound ability of making learning a joyful and rewarding experience.
Anyone who has a chance to study and learn under Poppy is very fortunate.
What a great day! I was bought this day as a present and had no experience of sculpture, nor indeed art since leaving school some 45 years ago, so I was to say the least, most apprehensive.
Poppy is so passionate about her subject that her enthusiasm just washes over you and after some blunders on my part, I felt that I actually created something that had demonstrable form and shape. Certainly I needn't have worried about my lack of skill, Poppy's encouragement makes up for that in spades.
The studio is in a lovely setting and we had a very nice lunch shared with another one of the craftspeople (another great guy) from this wonderful estate of art and craft.
Excellent value for money, perfect for those with talent who want to step up a gear, but equally supportive of novices to 'have a go'.
On the other hand, take a look at the superb work Poppy produces for sale and by commissions, it's truly exceptional and foretells of the heady heights for which she is clearly destined - get a lesson now before she is too much in demand!
Response from Poppy Field:
Thank you John for taking the time to write such a glowing review! It was an incredibly rewarding day and I'm thrilled that you enjoyed it so.
