City & Guilds Millinery course (levels 1 & 2) - take hat making to the next level!
Course available online or at monthly Sunday/Monday taught sessions at IDC in Redditch in the West Midlands. 120 hours - can be taken full or part time.
We offer qualifications at Level 1 & 2 combined. This gives you great flexibility in your learning . It is delivered Monthly attended sessions or online with full support and throughout the course you will be able to reflect on your progress and ideas through email with your tutor. The course time is 2 years from date of enrolment. City and Guilds is an international awarding body and you will be registered with them as a student at the beginning of your course. To take part in this course you will need to be online, have access to a computer, printer, scanner and a camera (digital or manual, although digital is easier and quicker).
Some key features the course will cover are:
How to measure the head correctly
Block, press and stiffen a variety of materials in the correct sequence
Recognise the characteristics of a range of millinery materials and fabrics
Cut and adapt patterns for hats
Make up a variety of hats using a range of materials
Students will be taught how to "Block" a crown and brim and how to produce a flat pattern and make a hat from it
Sourcing materials; Design, Millinery Techniques, Understanding face shapes, Using traditional techniques as well as innovative ones

Inkberrow Design Centre (IDC) is based in Redditch, just South of Birmingham in the West Midlands and offers a wide range of City & Guilds and recreational courses. We pride ourself on tailoring the courses to the individual learners’ needs and requirements, and can offer a flexible programme. IDC incorporates the Old Needle Works Craft Centre.

What's included in the price?
Completion is 120 hours - normally over a period of one year and can be achieved at either full or
part time study.
Full time study is one full day per week – completion of the course is 20 weeks.
Part time study is one evening per week – completion of the course is 40 weeks.
Millinery Fully Attended course for 120GLH COST £1200.00 (can be paid in 4 instalments)
Online Millinery COST £1080.00 (can be paid per module)
A ground floor haberdashery store, ground floor toilets and a ground floor craft and art store selling local artists work, including jewellery, home decoration, accessories and more!
The Old Needle Works is also host to an onsite Tea Room style Crafty Cafe, which opens 11am - 3pm. The Cafe have put together a workshop lunch package for us, priced at £6.50, which you can pre book by calling or texting your order through to Joan on 07731 181152 before the course starts. This includes a sandwich/salad (cheese or ham or tuna) on granary or 50/50 bread with a drink (tea/coffee/juice) cake and/or fruit. Unfortunately the cafe are sorry they are unable to accommodate any unusual dietary requirements.
