About the Course

This is a unique opportunity to make a three string Cigar Box Guitar or Ukulele in a weekend from recycled materials. The course is run in our fully equipped workshop which is in the heart of the Cotswolds. You can bring your own 'body' in the form of an oil can, cigar box or a tin or we will have a selection here for you to choose from.

The weekend is taught by Gavin Pond. Gavin has 30 years experience of teaching people from all walks of life. He has studied baroque lute and guitar making at West Dean College in West Sussex and has extensive experience of working with people with special needs and challenging behaviour. For 10 years he worked at The Acorn School as the Craft teacher where he taught musical instrument making, carpentry, pottery, longbow making, silverwork, and blacksmithing. He has also built and restored furniture. He is a visiting tutor at West Dean College and has been running Nailsworth Community Workshop for the past 10 years.

On the Friday night we will glue up the pieces of wood for the neck. This wood will come from recycled sources. Saturday we will shape the neck and finger board and on Sunday there will be final assembly and sing a song.
No previous experience is necessary - Gavin will talk you through all the processes necessary to complete your instrument.

We ask for a £55 non returnable deposit when you book a place and there are up to 5 people per course in our Community Workshop.

Please call or email if you want to know more.

If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
