Description
Spend a day carving your own special Christmas decorations, a wooden star bauble, a wood and copper candle and a wooden tree Spanbaum. This course is a great way to get started with woodworking, covering choosing materials, using tools safely, carving techniques, and drying and finishing. You’ll leave with the skills and knowledge needed to start carving, and with your own hand made decoration or three! This course covers everything you need to know and do to create stylish wooden decorations to take away with you. It will give you the skills and confidence to start carving at home – a great way to unwind and to create your own unique, low impact gifts, ornaments and functional items. This course is for anyone who would like to be able to carve wooden decorations from start to finish. Ideal for complete beginners or budding green wood workers looking to develop their skills. The course is more than learning to carve decorations, it’s a chance to reconnect with the outdoors and switch off from all of life’s little stresses. What you will learn: * Wood sources, types and forms for decoration carving. * Tools, their care and use. * Safe saw use. * Safe knife cutting techniques. * Copper wire shaping. * Discussions about, drying and finishes.
What's included in the price?
All tools and materials will be provided, but do wear closed toe footwear, practical and warm clothes, and a packed lunch. Refreshments, tea, coffee and biscuits, will be provided.

All our courses are held at Denmark Farm Conservation Centre in Lampeter, west Wales (SA48 8JA)
There is parking on site, and the option to walk around the 40 acre nature reserve while you are here.
Yes. We offer a range of accommodation options:
* Ecolodge self-catering apartment - sleeps groups up to 14. Discounts for course participants
* Bunkhouse - dormitory style bedroom, plus access to a shared kitchen/lounge with log burner, TV and kitchen
* Campsite - Open April to September.

Although dogs are very welcome around the nature reserve, we would ask you to leave your dog at home while you are here on a course as we do not allow dogs to stay in cars during workshops, and there isn't enough room to have them in the classroom.
Yes. If the carer is coming to support you on the course, but not participating, then the carer's place is free of charge.
If the carer wishes to take part, then they need to book a place on the course.
