About the Course

This brand new course will show you the best practices and approaches for creating a head-and-shoulders portrait in charcoal.

You will be shown and guided through two different approaches to creating a portrait in charcoal and chalk on paper.

The first approach will be structured with a focus on proportions and likeness, whilst the second will be more expressive with a focus on gesture and character. You will be working from photographs. You are welcome to bring your own images to work from or there will be a selection of images available.

This course is suitable for all abilities.

If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.

All tools and materials which will be provided.

Tea, coffee, biscuits and cold refreshments will be available throughout the day. Lunch is not provided although The Phoenix Kitchen, just next door, provides an array of meals, light lunches and snacks. Alternatively, there is a fridge and microwave in the studio kitchen for you to use if you would prefer to bring your own lunch.
