Ceramics: Friday course
Contact course provider
About the Course
On this five week course held on Friday afternoons from 1 til 4, run by Chris Donnelly, we will explore different clay making processes; slab building, press moulding, tiles and wheel throwing. The focus will be on the functional pot for the kitchen and table. You will learn about preparing and using clay slabs at different stages to construct unique vessel forms. You will also learn the basics of wheelthrowing: from centering the clay to making a range of forms such as bowls and cups, and making and applying handles. Suitable for complete beginners, or those with a little prior experience who would like to develop their skills further.
We will also cover surface decoration and finishing techniques: slip decoration and glazing. We will cover different approaches to applying coloured slips through brushing and simple printing, stecilling, markmaking and applying glaze.
Like all our courses, class sizes are small so that everyone gets enough individual support and advice (max 6 on this course). We will go through different practical demonstrations each week, and then you will be able to work on projects of your own design.
If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above or telephone us. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
