During the course of this craft workshop with ceramic artist Hilary Roberts, you will make a set of off-white earthenware tiles. Your panel of low-relief ceramic tiles will be suitable for a wash-basin splash back or behind a cooker but don’t let that limit you! They could be attached to any wall in any arrangement.
You’ll start of by designing a repeating pattern for your tiles. Hilary will give you plenty of pointers on how to create a successful repeating design. When you are happy with your design you will transfer it to cardboard. You’ll cut and assemble the cardboard to create simple moulds to press into the clay to transfer your design. Then you’ll be rolling the clay to an even depth, cutting the individual tiles and pressing your moulds into the clay. At the end of the workshop your tiles will be taken away by the course leader, glazed and fired and then returned to you to display with pride.
Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 4 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.
You will be making sufficient tiles to cover and area approximately 60cm by 30cm. All equipment and materials are included in your course fee.
Our teaching space is on the first floor (accessed via stairs) above our ground floor cafe where you can purchase refreshments should you wish.
