Cat Behaviour & Psychology course with tutor Roger Tabor.
This one-day course on cat behaviour and psychology will focus on why cats behave as they do and what causes problems for them; what goes on in their minds and all sorts of interesting cat facts to help you understand you and your cat better. For instance, why do we love and feed them and why do they choose to live with us? Do we give them the surroundings that they really want and what is best for them, or do we force them to fit in with our lives? Is it true that cats have more affinity with women, and dogs with men? If it is, why might that be? Where do they go when they are outside and how far? How is their social life arranged? You may be surprised by what they get up to when you are not looking! Our knowledge has been amazingly enlarged by the advent of movement-sensitive cameras.
Roger Tabor is well-known for his recent studies on cat territory; where and how far cats go when we can't see them. You may have seen his programme on TV, the Wild Side of Cats. Click on his name above to see more about him. His book, "100 Ways to Understand Your Cat", will be on sale on the day.
COMMENTS FROM PAST PARTICIPANTS
Very interesting day. Learnt far more than I anticipated. Excellent tutor with great passion for his subject. I didn’t want it to end. Wonderful lunch (as always), especially the soup! Relaxing venue in a wonderful setting. Val B.
Absolutely enjoyed this day. Very informative. Will certainly recommend.
Entertaining and friendly, passionate about subject. Place is lovely. Anne & Bob are lovely too! Organisation of day v. good. Organisation of speaker less so (computer-wise & time keeping!)
I would have loved the chance to ask more questions; I didn’t want to interrupt the presentation. Very lively presenter, and very knowledgeable.
I enjoyed the day. Very interesting and the venue is beautiful. Amanda S.
What to Bring
Strong shoes and warm socks, just in case. This is a farm with no tarmac in sight, so light shoes will not be practical or comfortable.
Assington Mill is a 70 acre organic farm in a beautiful secluded hidden valley in Suffolk. We aim to provide a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, where you will enjoy the experience of spending time with like-minded people and learning something new and life-enriching. Around fifty-five different short courses in rural and traditional craft skills are run here each year.
We aim to provide healthy meals during our courses made from locally-sourced organic ingredients, where possible. Lunches usually consist of soup and salads. Almost all the ingredients, if they are not grown here, come from Assington Farmshop, and are organic if possible. Cakes and biscuits are also home-made. We specialise in gluten-free food and are happy to cater for any other dietary requirements if you give us notice on the booking form.
Accommodation is available at many BnBs in the area (please see the list on our website) or you could stay in Mill Cottage on site. Alternatively, Camping is also possible at Assington Mill for £5 per night, anywhere on the farm. There is a toilet and shower available in a wetroom; plus a kitchen with two hobs and urn. We are not a proper camp site; this is just a facility for people coming on the courses.
Assington Mill is half a mile from the nearest bus stop or 3 miles from Bures train station if you wish to travel by public transport.
