About the Course
Take a weekend out to explore and develop your drawing technique in an inspirational historic setting - Flatford Mill.
This drawing course is for the confident amateur, student and professional artist who is open to challenging their practice, trying new techniques and approaches. It explores the graphic potential of line and rhythm, shape and texture that this season offers. Each day will start with a look at a range of artists from Constable to Auerbach to encourage critical thinking regarding image making and context. Tutor Jevan Watkins Jones will encourage on a one-to-one basis throughout the day and each day will end with a group critique to share works and thoughts from the day.
Jevan's teaching approach is simultaneously gentle and rigorous. He is an alumnus of the Royal Drawing School where he received First Prize for his drawings from city farms. His drawing practice ranges from sensitive and energetic studies of plants and people in the landscape to working on long term collaborative drawing projects with communities such as Facing-Recovering with injured soldiers.
Bring a friend! If you are attending a course at Flatford Mill at the sole occupancy price, we are offering a special rate for a friend or partner not enrolled on the course to also stay at £50 per night for dinner, bed and breakfast. Please get in touch directly to book this offer.
Flatford Mill lies at the heart of the Dedham Vale, on the banks of the River Stour near the Suffolk-Essex border. The Centre buildings, particularly the Mill and Willy Lott’s House, are instantly recognisable since they feature in many paintings by John Constable. The rich mosaic of lowland landscapes, wildlife habitats and places of historic interest are all reflected in our extensive programme of courses.
The Centre is located between Colchester and Ipswich and is about 10 miles from each, approximately 2 miles from the A12.
