About the Course
The Candle Class (for up to two students) includes the following:
An introduction to tools and equipment.
Health and safety guidelines. For example the safe preparation of the wax.
An introduction to materials.
Waxes. A description of commonly used waxes, their properties and uses in candle production.
Measuring the correct quantites of wax and additives required.
Perfume, testing for suitability, their effect on colour and burning.
Wick, showing different types, sizes and types of candles they are recommended for.
Wax dyes and pigments. When to use the correct colouring and measuring the amount needed.
Candles that you will be making and taking with you.
A one colour candle cast in a plastic mould.
A container candle in a glass using perfume.
A fruit candle cast in a rubber mould using perfume and a speciality colouring.
A chunk candle cast in a cylindrical plastic mould.
A swirly chunk candle cast in a plastic star mould.
Finishing off techniques and how to fix surface problems.
Time permitting demonstration of a sand candle, an angled layer candle, whipped wax and various ways of decorating candles using applique wax, flowers and transfers.
