Learn to make and take four candles!
The main aim of this workshop is to ensure that the art of candles making is fun for all. You will be using traditional and natural candles waxes and add essential oils, candles oils and dye chips if you want to add something different.
The workshops last for 4 hours and during this time you will learn about using wax safely, the types of waxes available, colours, smells and different techniques you can use. You will take home four of your own candle creations!
Angharad uses traditional paraffin wax as well as blended paraffin and beeswax, soy, palm and gel wax. Beeswax is particularly pleasant to work with and Angharad sources this locally when possible. Beeswax is known to produce a negative ion which, when burned, purifies the air by removing dust, pollen, household odours, mould, mildew and toxic residues. It also helps purify the air of viruses, bacteria and germs. Although blended beeswax candles are slightly more expensive to make, they are a lovely candle. Soy and palm wax are also delightful. These waxes are again slightly more expensive to buy as a raw material, but they are more environmentally friendly than the traditional paraffin wax. Angharad sources the wax from a supplier who acquires the raw materials from plantations that do not impact upon rain-forests.
Starter packs can also be purchased at the end of the workshop for those of you who decide to pursue their candle-making interest. These are priced at £10 and contain all the essential candle making equipment to get you started.
What's included in the price?
The workshop price is per person and includes ALL materials, equipment and light refreshments / tea time snack. Please contact Angharad directly to discuss your group and requirements.
I chose this course because of the excellent reviews it has received and we were not disappointed.
Angharad is a lovely person and superb teacher, knowledgeable and passsionate about candle making and made the day so enjoyable. We were welcomed into her home and given superb hospitality.
I still can't quite believe we made so many beautiful candles and we are keen to go back and learn more. Brilliant value for money and I can't recommend it more strongly.
I had a wonderfull day with Angharad in her candle making studio. It really could not have been better, totally exceeded my expectations. Fabulous company and excellent value. We made some really lovely candles and I am hooked on candle making as a hobby. Anyone who wants to try learning a new skill would really enjoy spending a day at Wax the Matter.
I booked this course for me and my Mum as a mothers day gift (i'm sorry this review is so late!). We had a fantastic day. Angharad was an amazing teacher, talking through all the different wax's and wicks, colors and scents. She actively encouraged note taking so we could practice our new art at home. The workshop was in a beautiful surrounding and lunch was wonderful, the pets were amazing. I'm hoping Angharad will do a slightly more advanced course in the future so i can re-book for me and my mum as we love mother-daughter days out where we learn new skills and come away with our achievements. We took some kits home with us and find it so relaxing making candles and practicing all we learnt. Thank you so much, we will be back! :-)
This course is definately value for money and on top of this my mum, my sister and I had a very enjoyable time.
Angharad who runs the course is extremely knowledgable on all different types of wax and wicks. We were able to make and come away with a number of candles out of soya wax, beeswax, rapeseed wax and gel wax. She emparts this knowledge very well and encourages creativity.
This course works well on multiple levels as Angharad is able to tailor it for what you need- whether it is just for a day out to do something different or for people wanting to learn candle making for a hobby or for people want to lean to make candles for their wedding or like me wanting to learn to make own candle products to sell.
As a direct result of this course / Angharad's teaching I am now making my own candles to sell.
The workshop is set in a lovely location and very relaxing. I would definately reccomend this course.
We had a fantastic day with Angharad. We hadn't been on any craft courses before so didn't know what to expect. She welcomed us to her home and made us feel really comfortable.
The course itself was excellent, we learned lots about different types of wax and the different processes that go into making the candles. We came away with a bunch of really nice candles that we were proud to have made and also with the skills and knowledge to make our own at home.
We would recommend this course to anyone, very very happy
Our day with Angharad was nothing short of wonderful. She is warm, friendly and genuine and also an incredible teacher. She welcomed us into her home and made a lovely lunch which we enjoyed with her and her family. She has such a great way about her that makes it so easy and enjoyable to learn the craft of candlemaking. She has a wealth of knowledge and not only teaches you candle making skills but imparts information to you to help you along with your business that many other people would not. We made lots of candles all of which we took home with us and are now enjoying. She is happy to customise the course to suit your individual needs and answer all your question.
I'm certain that we couldn't have found a better or nicer teacher. We will definitely go back to her for follow up lessons if necessary as we intend to put our knowledge to good use and turn our newly found skills into a new business. As a teacher Angharad is an asset to anyone who wishes to learn the craft of candlemaking.
Thank you Angharad for the wonderful day that we had with you.
I was very lucky to win a charity fundraising raffle prize offering a workshop session with Angharad at Wax the Matter.
I was given a very warm welcome into her family home and shared a very pleasant lunch with her family at no extra charge which was so nice. In her workshop we worked with several kinds of waxes and Angharad explained clearly how to make the different types of candles using oils to give a lovely smell to the finished products. I had never made candles from scratch and the workshop was so informative and I was able to learn quite a lot on the day. I was allowed to take home all the candles I made and I look forward to using them and thinking about the lovely experience I had making them with Angharad. She is a lovely lady and a very good teacher.
The day was a great pleasure and I wish Angharad all the best for the future.
Spent a lovely day with Angharad to expand my knowledge of candle making with a view of possibly selling my own creations. Angharad tailored the session specifically for me as I was interested in using soy wax and essential oils. She was incredibly informative, offering lots of useful advice and guidance and tips on possibly moving into the retail market. Directions to Angharad's address were spot on, lovely lunch in a relaxed environment and is located in a beautiful part of Wales. We made far more candles than I was expecting and it was great to be able to take these home and show them off to my family who were very impressed!
We had the most amazing day getting to know Angharad and her family, while learning how to make candles. I booked this as a surprise birthday gift for my other half, and she loved it. Angharad is such a lovely person who welcomed us into her home and workshop. The day was relaxed, informal and very informative at the same time. We had so much fun making so many different types of candles. I would recommend this to anyone who is interested in taking this up as a hobby, or who just wants a fun activity to do with a friend or loved one. Thanks again Angharad for a lovely birthday experience.
We would like to thank Angharad for a wonderful day
Tuition from an excellent teacher who was very welcoming and shared her skill and knowledge with us. We made some beautiful candles in a lovely peaceful surrounding area. We really enjoyed the day , the hospitality and the lovely lunch and tea breaks. It has given us the skills to enjoy a hobby as a couple. Thank you once again for the welcome from yourself , the family including your lovely dogs.

I would like to thank Angharad and her family for a warm welcome. I would recommend Angharad and the candle making course to anyone. I have not seen my son so relaxed and happy whilst making candles, you certainly lit his imagination. Made loads of different candles, and the food was pretty good.

I was given a craft voucher as a gift, and eventually decided to learn something about making candles with Angharad. Although I was a little nervous to discover I would be the only pupil that day, I felt quickly at ease with Angharad who took me through various processes and helped me experiment with different shapes, colours, scents and materials.
In the relaxing atmosphere of Angharad's countryside studio, the time flew by as more and more candles were made - I came home with far more than I'd expected to, and all much better than I'd expected them to be - all down to Angharad's gentle guidance.
I had a wonderful day, relaxing yet productive, and think I may now be hooked on making candles! I can easily see me returning for another visit as my skills develop ...
We took a small group of year 7-8 students to learn the art of candle making. During the planning stages of this expedition Angharad had helpfully supplied us with advice and put together a comprehensive package.
Angharad's warm welcome instantly created a relaxed atmosphere and children and adults learnt a great deal about the raw materials and production. It was a brilliant hands-on experience, which involved a lot of pouring, moulding and rolling of wax. The activities were short and varied and kept the children interested and involved. At the end, they had all produced three different candles to take home. We were all very proud of our handiwork! Angharad was calm, competent and friendly and our day out was a huge success. Children and staff alike had a fabulous time and we would highly recommend this workshop to young and old!
I have to say that my daughter and I spent a lovely day with angharad. She is an excellent teacher. The course was informative but very relaxed. We made some lovely candles and have come away really inspired to make some more at home. I would thoroughly recommend this course.
Angharad provided a wonderful day course in candle making at her lovely home set in the beautiful Welsh countryside. The course allowed us to explore several candle making techniques using different materials in her comfortable workshop. As there was just the two of us Angharad was able to devote a lot of time and we enjoyed the hands-on nature of this course, coming away with a lovely collection of candles and the enthusiasm to use skills learnt to make a few more at home. We would like to thank Angharad for her informative and knowledgeable approach along with great amounts of enthusiasm for making this such a great day. Thank you.
What a fantastic course. Angharad is such a welcoming & warm lady with excellent teaching techniques, I learnt so much & am really looking forward to putting it all into practice. I will definitely be going back for a second course to learn more. Really enjoyed the day & I highly recommend Wax the Matter
I've just spend a wonderful day making candles with Angharad in beautiful rural west Wales. The course was everything I'd hoped it would be. Good combination of theory and practical skills, using all different combinations of waxes, essential oils, colours et. Angharad is an excellent teacher who gives you the confidence to try different things and not to be scared of making mistakes. Atmosphere was relaxed and friendly, as were the dogs. Can't recommend this course highly enough for anyone wanting to develop candle making skills. Also had a lovely lunch and chat. Great to have an assortment of candles to take home and impress the family.
A brilliant day!
I had a fantastic time on the candle making course. Angharad was so welcoming and friendly as were the dogs. Angharad is a wealth of knowledge and I learnt so much about the different waxes, colours and scents. I went home with wide range of different candles and tea lights and will definitely be making my own candles from now on.

My children bought a voucher as a birthday present for myself and a friend to attend this course. What a wonderful gift! Angharad was so friendly and welcoming we knew it was going to be a great day from the moment we arrived at her lovely home. Her wealth of knowledge she delivered in a very relaxed way from her delightful workshop in the heart of rural Pembrokeshire. We came home with a variety of beautiful candles that we made using different waxes, wicks, fragrances and methods. We had so much fun, enjoyed a delicious homemade lunch in her kitchen and at the same time gained a wealth of knowledge about the art of candle making. Highly recommended.
Angharad is such a warm, welcoming person that you instantly feel a connection with her. She goes through the motions of candle making then you have the opportunity to do the same making a lovely selection of candles in different shapes, colours, fragrances as well as learning about various waxes, wicks and molds. Angharad has a wealth of knowledge and experience which she shares in her beautiful workshop set in the rural Welsh countryside next to her home. She makes a homemade lunch, offers a wide selection of beverages which adds to the ambience of an informative, creative and relaxed course on candle making.
Me and my boyfriend were really looking forward to the Candle making course and it certainly did not disappoint. Angharad was very helpful when I first contacted her about the course, she provided me with a few accommodation suggestions within the local area and even posted a beautiful handmade voucher so I could surprise my boyfriend. Her house was easy to find with the directions provided and is set in beautiful countryside with lovely views and no distractions. Angharad was very friendly and welcomed us to her house, even made us a delicious soup along with homemade bread for our lunch. The candle making was fun and interesting. Angharad explained all about the different types of wax and we were able to make various candles using our own chosen scents and colors all of which we were able to take home. Both of us had an excellent day and would definitely recommend the course. Thank you
Angharad returned to Moylegrove Old School Hall and her 2nd candle making workshop with the village craft group. What an absolute star she is. We love her! Great fun and truly inspirational. Again we were amazed and delighted at the variety of candles we were able to make. Angharad is a true professional in her craft, and a lovely, kind and generous person to boot. Looking forward to our next workshop. We can't get enough of her.

My time making candles with Angharad was nothing short of magic! It was a delicious mixture of color, scent, creative expression, education, and rich conversation. I came seeking a way to connect to my candle-making ancestors, and I was left deeply satisfied. I will surely continue to make candles, and feel well equipped with the information needed to go forward with my candle making fun! My profound gratitude to the lovely Angharad, for her skill as an artist and a teacher, and as a representative of the beautiful place and rich culture of her home. I HIGHLY recommend this!
What a wonderful day! I had really looked forward to my candle-making day with Angharad and I was not disappointed in the least. We had fun making candles from several different waxes, Angharad is very knowledgeable and obviously loves her craft and is eager to share her experiences. No question was left unanswered and I came away from the course with an eagerness to carry on at home, knowing that if I needed advice Angharad would be at the end of the phone or an email to help. The workshop is set in an idyllic location with no distractions from traffic. I would highly recommend this course to anyone wanting to learn or brush up their candle-making skills.
I attended the course as a part of my staff conference and I was thrilled.
Everything was well explained and the course content was fab. I enjoyed every minute of it. Even after the training Angharad has been very supportive and helpful when I said I want to continue with my candle making. Would definitely recommend!
I'd recommend a candle-making workshop with Angharad. I arranged one with Angharad earlier in the year for me and my partner. The booking process was simple; I sent an initial email to Angharad enquiring about dates and she got back to me quickly with her availability. It was really helpful to receive suggestions for accommodation and things to do locally if you want to make the most of your time in that part of the country (which I'd also recommend). The session itself was a really informative and relaxed afternoon spent in Angharad's workshop. She explained the whole process, materials and techniques and helped us make different types of candles which we took home with us. That was at the end of May and since then we've made a good few candles, given some to friends and family and now navigate our way around the craft websites Angharad recommended to us when we were there. Give it a go!
What an inspirational and enjoyable day we had making a number of candles using products which could be sourced from the UK. Angharad was an informative and knowledgeable tutor was keen to share her expertise and answered our questions. I can smell the honeysuckle fragrance we used in one of our candles as this is being written.
It was a very sociable experience and one I'm sure everyone would enjoy whilst learning a new skill.
We had an absolutely wonderful day. A lovely garden to sit in, some delicious cake and good conversation. We also made some Candles! Angharad explained everything carefully, encouraged us to try out our own ideas and sent us home with some beautiful candles. They have already been admired by friends who mutter something about Christmas presents! It certainly was a course that left us teaming with ideas and eager to do more.
This afternoon Angharad joined the Moylegrove Village Craft Group and introduced us to Candle Making.
Expert tuition with the bonus of a warm and generous personality. Health and safety, equipment, waxes galore, wicks, moulds, containers, Colour and scent and lots of fun.
One of the best afternoons I can remember for a long time.
The craft club were delighted with the whole thing. Inspirational and incredible value for money.
We now look forward to our next workshop with Angharad when we will be turning our hand to Xmas candles.
I took my girlfriend on Angharad's candle making course at the end of February.
Right from the very first interaction I had the whole thing was wonderful.
Angharad was kind enough to send over lots of information on the course and the local area so that we could really make the most of our stay. This included hotel recommendations, other points of interest and even different craft courses nearby.
The workshop is set in beautiful countryside that is honestly breath-taking, a really nice place to do something like candle making.
We found Angharad to be very knowledgeable and she had what I can only imagine to be every different type of candle making implement or material there is.
As it was St David's day Angharad was kind enough to invite us into her home for some traditional Welsh Cowl (which was delicious) and was a really memorable part of the day.
We left having made 8 candles and despite me being the least arty person in the world, they actually looked good! (A sign of an excellent teacher)
I couldn't recommend the workshop any more highly.
Thank you to Angharad so much for an amazing experience. I didn't want the day to end.
Angharads warm welcome, relaxed atmosphere, and fabulous personality brought out my creativity in abundance. I am delighted with my candles, they look great and smell Divine.
My family and friends are so impressed with my candles, they think she is a miracle worker due to my non artistic tendencies. We made a variety of wicks, a beeswax pillar, tea light, two tone gel candles, mould candles, chunk candle, container candles in a variety of fragrances and colours. All done with safety in mind.
I would seriously like to recommend her course to everyone. Young or old, I' m sure they will enjoy every second!
Spent a wonderful day with Angharad in her workshop. Made loads of candles. Learnt so much and had such a laugh. Really surprised myself at what I was capable of making and picked up lots of hints and tips to take home and try myself. Would highly recommend this course in a beautiful welsh setting. Thank you so much Angharad.
Had a brilliant day and learnt so much about waxes especially loving gel wax, and different types of wicks. We made a range of candles, container and pillar candles and I had an absolute ball.
Had a wonderful day last Saturday with my two sisters learning to make candles with Angharad. What a lovely lady who is so interesting and knowledgable. We were made so welcome by Angharad and her family in their lovely home and I cannot recommend this class too highly.
Just had a fantastic day which I can thoroughly recommend. The setting was idyllic and Angharad seemed just like an old friend. We learnt a lot and I particularly liked the emphasis on natural products where possible. I'm looking forward to filling every available receptacle with candle wax!!
I can also thoroughly recommend her daughter's cakes!!! All in all a lovely birthday treat.
Excellent workshop for a novice like me to candle making. Clearly explained, lots of useful tips on different types of waxes, methods and associated tools. Fun, creative and flexible. Very friendly tutor, would definitely recommend to freinds and family. Can't wait to get started!
Just done the candle making course with a few friends., we all thoroughly enjoyed it, learnt lots, made 5 candles each and had a fun day. Angharad was great, made us very welcome and taught us lots. would highly recommend it.
I booked a candle making course for myself and three friends for my one friends birthday. I didnt know what to expect and was surprised at how much fun it was, the afternoon flew by. My friend whos birthday it was had a thoroughly good time and as a result i cannot recommend this course or Angharad enough. We were made to feel welcome, we learnt loads, took away 5 candles each and had a good time whilst doing it. What more can you ask for? Definitely recommend to anyone!
I have just participated in a candle making workshop run by Angharad from wax the matter, and it was great!!!! We all had the chance to make 6 candles each (including bees wax, rape seed, gel wax and paraffin wax) ! I had such an amazing experience thanks to Angharad, and I would certainly recommend it to others! Thanks
Just had a taster session with Angharad with a group of friends, thoroughly enjoyed learning about making candles and in making them. At the end you also have some lovely candles to take home. I would recommend it for people of all ages. Angharad is also a very patient and good teacher. Many thanks for an enjoyable time.
A really interesting craft to try and there's lots to find out about the different waxes, wicks & types of candle - I never realised there was such a huge array!
Anghharad does a fantastic job of explaining everything in a fun & interesting way - I can thoroughly recommend it.
Wow, this was wicked fun! I didn't realise there was soooooo much to know about candles, waxes etc and Angharad certainly knows her craft. An informative, interactive, creative and most of all fun evening had by all. In a very short space of time we had all made various types of candles, I was suprised at the quality of the outcome as i'm usually rubbish at this kind of thing. But the hand made candles I brought home are lovely. Thoroughly recommend Angharad and Wax the Matter for a creative and fun session of candle making and sillyness :)
A thoroughly enjoyable evening, good fun and informative. I learnt about the different types of wax, and their suitability for different types of candles. Having had a go in the past but not done so recently I will now dig out my kit and have another go!
