About the Course

Be inspired by the wildlife found in the hedgerows and meadows of Kingcombe and create your own unique native British wildlife in clay.

This one-day workshop will start with a demonstration guiding you through the basic hand-building techniques needed to create your own unique native British mammal. You will make your own creation with guidance and support every step of the way, learning how to mould and shape the clay to create expressive facial features, textures and detailing. By the end of the workshop you will have hand-built and painted your beautiful characteristic animal in clay. It will be taken away to dry and be kiln fired, ready to collect a couple of weeks later.

Deborah Clarke has over 20 years’ experience working with clay. At South East Essex College of Arts and Technology Deborah studied a BTEC in Three-Dimensional design. This covered a variety of subjects including product design, woodwork, product design and ceramics. She went on to specialize in ceramics achieving a BA (hons) in three-dimensional design at Bath Spa University College.

After completing her degree in 1999 she exhibited at the New Designers exhibition at the Business Design Centre, London, going on to exhibit hand built ceramics across the South West. She has enjoyed stewarding and helping build wood and turf kilns at the International Ceramics Festival, Aberystwyth and is an active member of the East Dorset Potters Group.

As a three-dimensional artist, Deborah has worked in many mediums with groups of all ages and abilities. She facilitates workshops which are fun and promote a creative imagination, supporting your ideas with practical making skills. This workshop is suitable for beginners.
