About the Course
Botanical prints are hugely appealing, and where better to make your own than at a stunning lavender farm. In collaboration with Hitchin Lavender, experienced tutor Kim has designed a two and a half hour workshop in the purpose built studio at the foot of the lavender field, where you will learn the linocutting and printing technique using simple tools, to produce some original prints.
Come and learn how easy it is to produce some beautiful handmade prints, and enjoy the picturesque surroundings. The class is suitable for beginners, or as Kim can tailor the class according to each students needs and experience, is equally suited to improvers and experts.
As well as the inspiration out of the window, there will be lots of reference material. Once you are all settled down with a complimentary drink, Kim will guide you through how to transfer your own design (or if you prefer one taken from a template) onto the lino; she will then show you step by step how to carve the design, how to ink the block, and finally how to print it using printmaking equipment. You will end up with a wonderful selection of plant inspired work. Bring the outside into your home with no need to water!
Workshops run on Fridays throughout April, May, June and July. Simply choose the date which suits you best when placing your order, and Kim will post you a workshop ticket with details and directions to the farm, located on the edge of Ickleford, near Hitchin, Hertfordshire. This would make a lovely activity for you and a friend or relative. The workshop is also child-friendly. Kim will happily bring some materials which little ones can make prints with, or they can simply watch and play- just let her know.
Please note tickets are non refundable.
If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above or telephone us. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
What's included in the price?
All materials are included, with two different pieces of lino so you can create more than one design; there will be a range of waterbased printing inks for you to use, and a wide selection of card, with matching envelopes. You'll also have a set of tags to print onto, and a set of paper bags. The lino you cut will be yours to take home, and you'll also have a guide to easy linocutting to keep.
You'll receive a complimentary tea or coffee on arrival; the cafe in the main barn on site offers lunch and cakes too, as well as a range of tempting lavender gifts. Included in the workshop cost is a walk around the wonderful lavender fields (cutting lavender is an option which you can pay for on arrival if you wish).
You can conclude your morning with a wander round the beautiful lavender fields.
Brilliant course in a lovely location. Good even for those who aren’t good at drawing as you can be shown how to trace and transfer the design. There is also lots of inspiration to draw from... and nice coffee and cake!
