About the Course

During the course of this 5 week class we will be making 5 different books, building each week on what was learnt the previous week.

Course Outline

Week 1
Introduction to basic book structures, pamphlet bound softcover notebooks using different stitches on the spine

Week 2
Single section case binding: Following from last week we will use a simple pamphlet binding for which we will then make a hardback style cover

Week 3
Building on week 2 we will start our multi-section case bound book. This classic hardback style book will be completed next week. This week we will be making the sections and sewing the text block.

Week 4
This week we will make the cover and “case in” our book from last week. We will also prepare the covers for our Coptic binding which we will be making next week.

Week 5
Coptic binding.
Using our cover boards from last week we will bind our multi-section Coptic book with exposed spine.
