About the Course

On this course you will make a case binding and a drop back box to fit. The course provides all the support you need to master the basics of bookbinding through a range of demonstrations and practical exercises. You will be taught about how to handle tools, equipment and bookbinding materials with confidence. The course is suitable for beginners and more experienced bookbinders who want to refresh their skills and work on personal projects.

By the end of the course you will be able to

be able to complete a DROP-BACK BOX
gain knowledge and confidence in a range of bookbinding skills
understand attributes of bookbinding materials and tools, and how to use them

Class format and activities
In class, you will learn through demonstrations and practical work. There will be demonstration, group discussion and one-to-one tuition. You will also have detailed feedbacks from your tutor in a constructive and supportive environment.

Entry requirements
No. This course is suitable for beginners or as a refresher if you have done some bookbinding before. It is ideal for people who have an interest in arts and crafts and would like to gain good hand skills in bookbinding.

What you need to know before you enrol
If you have any physical issues with working in a standing position, please discuss before enrolling on the course.

What you will need for your class
If you have them: notebook, pencil, rubber, metal ruler, craft knife, bone folder, scissors.

There will be an opportunity to buy materials and tools needed at the first and subsequent classes. Tutor will give advice on things you may need.
What you can do next
Own project. More beginner's bookbinding courses. After discussion with your tutor, you may join intermediate bookbinding courses. Or in another subjects, which you could combine with bookbinding skills, such as printmaking, painting, photography, Adobe InDesign.
