This 5-day course is for complete beginners to woodwork.
You will begin with learning basic wood work techniques, learn how to use different woodworking tools and gain the skills required to carry out DIY jobs around the house that involve wood.
Health and Safety when using Power Tools
Drawing plans and working from them
Selecting the correct timber for the job
Safe use of battery powered drills
Drill bits (masonry, forstner bit, hinge bits, speed bits, twist drills and brad point)
Using hand planes, chisels, files and rasps
Different types of squares and their function
Saws- Including Hack saws, handsaws and coping saws
Sharpening tools safely
Making basic joints (lap joints, half joints, mortise and tenon, pocket screws, box and dovetail joints)
Making a basic Jig
Using spirit and laser levels
Sanding and finishing techniques
Mortising for hinges and locks and how to install
Using profile gauges
Mitre blocks and bench hooks
Different fasteners (screws, nails, anchors and cam fixing)
You will use your skills to produce a product to take home

You will be supplied with your own gloves and safety glasses (and mask if required), however feel free to bring your own if you prefer to wear them . We do not recommend that contact lenses are worn as the area is dusty.
You will need to wear sturdy shoes (no trainers). We can supply boots at £20.00 if you need a pair. We stock sizes 3-13.
Please wear clothes suitable for dusty work, sensible shoes and bring your own lunch.
