About the Course
Absolute Beginners' Cushions, Curtains and Roman Blinds Retreat
Course limited to 6 people only
Soft Furnishings courses are broken down into separate modules and days can be booked independently or as a full course. They are suitable for people with little or no sewing experience. Please bring own sewing machine or borrow one of ours.
At the end of the course, you will leave with a full-sized (small) pair of lined curtains, a (small) Roman blind and 2 styles of cushion.
Module 1 - Absolute Beginners’ Sewing - use of sewing machine
Module 2 Understanding sewing terms and construction techniques
Module 3 Construction of simple cushion and Piped Cushion
Module 4 Calculating fabric quantities and design of pencil-pleat curtains
Module 5 Cutting out pair of small curtains and lining
Module 6 Constructing small pair of curtains
Module 7 Calculating size of Roman Blind, including number of rods & folds
Module 8 Cutting out Roman blind
Module 9 Constructing Roman Blind
Kathy King is an experienced tutor and has been sewing since she was a child.

What's included in the price?
All materials including piping, header tape, rod tape, cord and rods for Roman blinds are included. Please bring your own top fabric and lining. A list of items required will be sent to those booking on the course.
Workshops are held in our lovely coastal studio (see Facebook page Crafty Makes in the Lakes). Lunch and afternoon high tea can be purchased from our on-site Mad Hatters' tearooms but free tea, coffee, biscuits and cake is provided during the day ( we love cake!!)
Opportunities are available to continue the sewing during evenings.
Accommodation is available at specially discounted rates at our local b&b with optional evening meal. All rooms are kingsize or twin with single occupancy available and partners are welcome to accompany course participants. Please email to receive our brochure.
