Description:

Learn basic principles of making your own unique silver clay jewellery using wildlife as your inspiration. Using examples you collect from Testwood Lakes or moulds, you can use art to explore natural forms in a 3D art medium and make a beautiful piece of jewellery to keep or give to a loved one.

Silver clay, sometimes called Precious Metal Clay (PMC), is pure silver which comes in the form of a clay, which can be modelled to create unique designs. After shaping and refining, the clay is fired, which converts it into pure solid silver. In this way you can create your own unique, stunning designs.

You will learn:

Basic silver clay techniques like texturing and rolling
Basic design principles
Handling and manipulating the silver clay
Firing
Burnishing and finishing techniques
You will see a demonstration of torch firing, your tutor Hilary Bowen will deal with all the firing of your piece showing you how easy it is to fire your silver clay pieces at home.

This course is taught in a small group of no more than 8 and the price includes the cost of the silver clay, enough for the piece of jewellery you make to take home.

All the tools and moulds will be available to use and you will also be able to purchase jewellery findings for your piece from Hilary Bowen on the day. Please bring cash on the day to make any additional purchases.

At the end of the course you will have sufficient skills and knowledge to make your own silver clay jewellery at home.

Is this course for me? For complete beginners to advanced jewellery makers who want to try this exciting medium.

Tutor

Hilary Bowen – Hilary lives and works in Breamore, near Salisbury, where she designs and makes silver jewellery. Most of her pieces are made from “silver clay”. This is pure silver which comes in a clay form, and when fired in a kiln comes pure solid silver. Many of her designs are influenced by forms in nature, such as plants, insects, sea creatures, etc., and she often adds 22-carat gold and semi-precious stones for decoration. Many of her pieces are on display at galleries, mainly in Hampshire.
