The 'Beginners Introduction to Papercutting' workshop is a three hourly Saturday afternoon workshop at Seeded, a wool and haberdashery emporium with Aimee Richards of Miss Bespoke Papercuts. The sessions usually start at 2 pm and run until 5 pm.
Aimee has been a papercut Illustrator since 2014, selling her artworks internationally and teaching workshops to over 75 people-beginners and advanced-since 2015. Her signature style is romantic with hints of humour and each workshop is themed, usually to the calendar ie February's session will have templates inspired by Valentines and she was recently featured on the Portsmouth Arts Trail.
3 hours may seem like a long time, but for the first hour we will be practising basic shapes as well as learning about the principles and techniques of beginners paper cutting. This includes cutting from a template and how to create a template from your own drawing. I will also show you the diversity of papercut art and where to buy templates to carry on.
After a cake break, you will spend the remaining two hours cutting a design derived from one of Miss Bespoke Papercuts original hand drawn illustrations, converted into a template just for you to frame and display at home or to give to a friend.
I am hopeful that this introduction will then give you the confidence to continue papercutting and you will go home with a full kit of basic materials and another template to have another go. To carry on the momentum you will also be granted access to the exclusive 'Papercutters of Seeded' FB group which shares tips and inspiration from other people who have attended the course.
You don't need to have any drawing skills to attend this workshop as I provide you with two beautiful frame-filling templates and the only thing you need to bring is yourself but I would urge you to check before hand if Portsmouth FC are playing as this tends to affect parking.
The maximum number of people per session is six and all materials are provided (Scalpel, spare pack of blades, a cutting mat and templates and backing papers) and are yours to keep and take home with you as well as refreshments and cake.
What's included in the price?
Workshop Price includes tuition, materials to take home with you, two templates-one of which will be done in class, refreshments, cake and an invite to the exclusive facebook group to carry on the momentum.
The perfect course even if you have never been crafty before. . . I love the pack to take away as it gets you started with your new skill straight away, and the after course support via the Facebook group is great for inspiration. Thanks Amy
I decided to attend this course after seeing the amazing results that one of my friends achieved in just one afternoon, and I am so happy that I did! I brought another friend along and we had a really lovely afternoon with Aimee, who is so talented, encouraging, relaxed and funny - you couldn't ask for a better teacher. The 3 hrs flew by, we had a lovely piece of cake mid-way and by the end we had mastered some basic skills and turned out a super paper cut to take home. The price also includes another template for you to work on at home plus the scalpel and cutting mat - really great value. I'd highly recommend this as a perfect way to start. :-)
Couldn't have asked for more from this class! Aimee is a natural teacher and very welcoming, it felt more like we were meeting for a natter than a lesson - which took the nerves away and enabled us to learn more! The session should come with a warning however, there's a high chance you'll come away hooked to papercutting!
I was recommended this course by a friend who was aware I had a passion for crafts but had never done papercutting. I attended a beginner's workshop in June and haven't looked back. The sessions are great fun and a nice setting to learn in. Everything that is needed is provided and plenty of support and guidance is provided throughout. I have since attended two further workshops and have thoroughly enjoyed them. Aimee is very friendly and makes the session fun as well as being there to provide assistance if needed. Would highly recommend.
A great introduction to paper cutting. The course is in a lovely relaxed environment (Seeded shop) Aimee is very patient and kind with her tuition and I came away with a beautiful picture (her design but my cutting) which I'm very proud of and everyone admires.
I have found my new passion ❤❤❤
I treated myself to the beginners course, it was relaxed & I soon got chatting to the other ladies. Lots of laughs & fun had by all. Aimee was very patient & helpful & more than happy to share her knowledge.
Would highly recommend.
Great course - Aimee is great fun and a really good teacher. 3 hours passes really quickly and I went on to do more paper cutting at home after the workshop. I enjoyed it so much that I did the advanced workshop before Christmas - also brilliant.
Brilliant course :) booked it as a birthday present and had and lovely time. Was a bit nervous as I and small the least creatine person ever but Amy puts you at ease and is super lovely :) if you're a bit interested go for it!
Aimee is lovely and the workshop was fab. She was well informed and provided packs with clear instructions and everything you needed to take away and carry on papercutting at home. The designs were well drawn and and look lovely on the wall. I've just used my new found skills to make some Christmas gifts which were very well received and will definitely be making some more.
This course is such good value for money, you get all the tools you need to carry on papercutting after the course and it's the most therapeutic 3 hours I've spent! Aimee is brilliant - she puts you at ease and is a great teacher :). Would recommend this to anyone!
