About the Course
On this 6 week beginners jewellery course you will learn the traditional techniques for designing and creating your own jewellery pieces. Working in a small group led by contemporary Jeweller Helen Noakes, you will be given expert tutor guidance as you learn how to create your own silver ring with a cabochon set stone.
The beginner’s class will introduce you to the following jewellery making techniques: sawing, soldering, filing, piercing, annealing, creating a silver ring, creating a cabochon stone setting, polishing, adding texture to metal, using rolling mills. This is a great taster course for anyone keen to learn jewellery making and a perfect introduction if you have never made jewellery before.
“Making a ring under Helen's expert, patient tuition was so rewarding. I was completely absorbed by the experience and Helen was inspirational. Her calm, clear delivery meant that every stage of the making process, from sawing the silver sheet to working with the flux, seemed completely do-able (for a beginner) and also a lot of fun!”
There are two sets of classes available. One will run on a Wednesday afternoon from 2pm till 5pm and the other on Wednesday evenings from 6pm till 9pm. The course is 6 weeks (18 hours tuition in total).
A maximum of 4 students per session.
