About the Course

We are lucky at Hawkmoth Wood in having 24 tree species so plenty of opportunity to get up close and personal with the many of our common native and forestry trees. We'll walk the wood looking at how to identify them from the leaves, bark and situation. We'll learn about their uses history in the UK, their timber and culinary uses, their place in legend and their susceptibility to increasing risk from imported diseases which may change our landscape for a very long time. We saw this in the 1970's with Dutch Elm Disease but other species are now threatened.
