This evening class is for students who have some previous experience with hand building. Over the weeks I will lead advanced building and decorating projects for the group but those who prefer working on independent free work can do so.
Some see hand-building as the "poor cousin" of throwing on a wheel. Nothing could be further from the truth! Building pots and objects by hand allows for much more personal expression and variety of form. Once the basic techniques are understood, anything can be achieved! I encourage my students to be creative and respect what happens when hand meets clay.
What will I make?
All projects will be fired and ready for collection after the course has ended.
Who is the teacher?
I’m a professional lettercutter but studied ceramics at university and have worked extensively with clay. I have offered a variety of crafts classes over the years and have a fully equipped (stuffed to overflowing!) studio that accommodates 6-8 students. I have lived in the Balcombe area for 12 years. The classes are relaxed, friendly and we’ll take a tea and biscuit break half-way through.
If you will be redeeming a CraftCourses gift voucher on this course, the voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
