About the Course

Beginners Beekeeping Courses

If you’re a novice or about to start beekeeping and want to learn to keep bees, then we have just the course for you. Book online through our own website secure payment service when you click "BOOK NOW". It is that simple! Please click the contact button above for more details.

There are 3 dates to choose from. Each course is stand alone and beginners only need to attend one weekend course.


Included in the price of the course is a tasty two-course lunch on both-days, materials and the use of protective equipment. Bring your own wellies.

Each weekend course starting at 09:30 will cover the following topics and will provide an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have during the day ending at 17:00:

Introduction to the Bee colony and Bee products.
Types of hive, equipment, record keeping.
Frame making.
Basic hive inspection; handling frames; lighting a smoker, using a hive tool.
Identification: Queen, worker, drone
Swarm control – you’ve got queen cells, what do you do? What kind of queen cells?
Pests & diseases
Taking off honey, clearing bees from supers.
Feeding
Combining colonies
Preparation for winter
