About the Course

You will undertake a variety of filmmaking assignments and projects through the week, with the aim of exploring different styles of video film production. We will examine the principles of scripting and storyboarding and consider the important aspects of how to use a camera to capture the moving images required to make a film. We will cover the principles and techniques of location filming, the choosing of camera lenses, video lighting and use of tripods, audio recording, and basic video editing. You will use your own computer laptop to download and view your camera footage, a laptop could be provided if needed.

Course tutor: Nick Cleave
Nick Cleave is an experienced Broadcast Television Lighting Cameraman with over 30 years in Television filming, ranging from factual, entertainment and documentary filming, to drama, wildlife and multi camera studio filming. He works with many camera types and formats and edits and post produces his own work. He has experience of training aspiring filmmakers in how to operate cameras and create the moving images that are needed to make a film.

Start and Finish Times
Resident participants are requested to arrive for registration between 1:00pm and 4:00pm on arrival day, after this time self-directed arrival information will be posted on the front door. There will be an introductory talk at 5:00pm. Supper is usually at 6:30pm. Non resident bookings should arrive just before 5.00pm. A non resident booking also includes dinner during your course as teaching does progress into the evening. Breakfast, for resident participants, will be from 8:00am. The course will end at 15.00 on Friday. On the final day please vacate your room by 9:00am, storage is provided for your luggage.

What to Bring
You will need a camera device that can record moving images and be able to download your camera recordings onto a laptop or memory stick/hard drive for viewing.
