About the Course
Decorate a neckline with French beaded flowers, caging stones or a solid border of beads; add a beaded fringe to a shoulder strap. Learn skills and practise techniques that can be used to bead a bodice or lace; develop beading skills for your personal use or your business! In this practical and creative workshop you will gain an insight into bridal beading. You will be able to build on your existing knowledge and develop more advanced skills as you produce beautiful bridal beading. This course is suitable for you if you want to bead garments for yourself, or if you want to earn a living producing beaded garments by running your own business or by working for a company. You will be able to devise your own projects with the tutor, dependent on your level of ability and to work through your own plan.
By the end of the course you will be able to
to produce a range of samples using a variety of techniques
to apply these samples to a garment
to build on your existing knowledge and develop your skills
to customise a garment using one or more techniques
to experiment and develop your skills further
Class format and activities
You will produce a range of samples and explore how these can be used on garments, accessories, etc. You will be able to develop your skills by engaging with suitable projects determined by your existing level of experience in discussion with the tutor. Teaching is both to the whole class and on an individual, one-to-one basis using demonstrations, discussion, examples, samples, hand-outs and other technical support material where appropriate.
Only basic sewing skills required.
In order to ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment.
This is a Beginners Course. All are welcome.

What you need to know before you enrol
This course requires close work which may be wearing on the fingers and back.
What you will need for your class
a basic sewing kit: fabric scissors, small trimming scissors, dressmaker’s pins, tape measure
• dressmaker’s tracing wheel • sewing thread, hand sewing needles
• paper scissors
• notebook, pen, A4 ring binder
• you must purchase a materials pack from the tutor at no more than £5
• paper and card are available for use in the classroom
• you will need to purchase a sewing machine bobbin from your tutor for £1, refundable at the end of the course
