3 day residential willow basket weaving workshop at the beautiful Margam Discovery Centre.
Friday 12 May to Sunday 14 May 2017
The art of basket making was developed early on in man’s evolution. Early baskets would have been made with wild materials gathered locally for harvesting fruit and vegetables or making strong rigid containers necessary for everyday life. In Britain oak, hazel and willow were commonly used and the weaving of willow using different techniques developed into a profession. On this course you will learn the techniques to make a beautiful round shopping basket of your own. The course is suitable for complete beginners or for those who want to want to expand their knowledge of weaves, borders and handles.
Out to Learn Willow are a small company based in the Vale of Glamorgan, specialising in all aspects of working with willow. We provide fun and creative willow weaving workshops; beginners baskets, garden structures, willow sculpture, living willow and much more. We are also makers of willow craft and traditional baskets.
