About the Course
We are currently looking for a new workshop in the local area and are hoping to move into the workshop in the new year in the local area.
The course Back to Basics is taught by Hattie, she comes from a textile background and has been a sewer for the last 6 years (nearly everyday). She studied Textiles at a GCSE and A-Level standard, and has run her own business since leaving school creating handmade clothing.
The Back to Basics course is for the complete beginner whom may want to start sewing at home and has their own sewing machine, or is thinking of purchasing their own sewing machine.
The course is set up into a number of stages, the 'set up', 'techniques' and 'project'.
The 'set up' stage is the first step this is where Hattie will walk you through the health and safety procedures, and where you will learn how to set up and maintain the machine followed shortly by practicing stitches and a mini sewing machine licence test.
The 'technique' stage follows where Hattie will walk you through a number of techniques, including applique, reverse applique, fabric manipulation and more. You will make a sample from each technique to give it a go before settling on a project and technique to use.
The 'project' stage is the final step where Hattie will let you create your own project with any additional help you would like, you can select any of the techniques that you have tried to create a product such as a cushion or tote bag. The project should be finished just before its time to go home!
