About the Course
Discover how art and society developed by looking at paintings in the National Portrait Gallery. One session on site in this admission-free gallery will introduce you to how British history has been represented in portraiture over the centuries.
The National Portrait Gallery preserve over 4150 paintings, sculptures and miniatures that portray some of the most influential man and women in British history. A selection of 10 paintings will offer the opportunity to put a face to the name of some of those extraordinary personalities, understand how they wanted to be seen, discuss their biggest achievements or failures, reconstruct the historical events they were involved in. Direct observation, group discussions, and a few practical tasks will facilitate the engagement with the works of art.
Constructive and supportive feedback from your tutor will help you succeed during the class.
