LEARN TO PAINT IN A WEEKEND! - have a mini art holiday! Don't be scared, you will not be a beginner after this weekend, even if you haven't painted since a child! The art course is for beginners or intermediates in watercolour painting and includes all the materials you will need. You will be shown from scratch how to stretch paper, apply paint, mix colour and all watercolour techniques to get you started. For improvers we will help you to expand your knowledge and introduce you to new ideas, tips and techniques.
There will be various step by step demonstrations live on our TV so everyone can see and tuition from 2 professional artists throughout the course. You should complete at least 4 finished paintings. We have laid out the itinerary for indoors, but if the weather (depending on the time of year) is good we may go outside and paint in the lovely grounds of the hotel for some of the time.
Your teachers are, Vicki Griggs, a professional artist and art gallery owner. Vicki has been teaching art to adults and children for over 18 years. Vicki owns and runs her own art gallery in Broadstairs called The Little Art Gallery where she sells her own work and several other local artists. This year Vicki has have several works published and sold as prints the the nationwide store Dunelm Mill. Beth Stokes is a freelance artist and designer and also sells work in the gallery. Both Vicki and Beth will help you though out the weekend.

They have been close friends for nearly 20 years and live only 10 doors away from each other.

This course was very enjoyable. It was fun and we learnt a lot. Vicki was a good teacher and Beth was also supportive. We produced a lot of work and even complete beginners were very pleased.
The Flackley Ash Hotel is in a lovely location , near Rye, with good facilities and the food was very good. My non- painting husband enjoyed the break too.

Had a lovely weekend. Pace just right for beginners like us. All equipment provided. Patient and constructive teaching. We were pleased with our efforts and came away with a determination to continue and improve. Great venue, spa hotel too. Close to the coast and Great Dixter Gardens which made for a great weekend break.

I was very nervous the day we started the course as I had gone on my own but I needed have been they were plenty of people on the course who had never painted before or like me were beginners the teachers were brilliant nothing was to much bother they helped everytime it was needed even when I had to keep asking. They made you feel relaxed and nothing we did was wrong just a learning curve. We were supplied with everything we needed as well as food and drink all through the weekend. The hotel was lovely again everything was supplied plenty of wonderful food and drink. Added bonus was the use of all their facilities for free. Loved the pool and jacuzi and a very clean, warm and comfortable room. I would deffinetley recommend this course and great value for money.

Brilliant weekend, would highly recommend it, suitable for all ages and abilities, groups, couples, singles. I had not picked up a brush in 30 plus years and was super nervous. But I needn’t have been - Vicki was a brilliant teacher. Will definitely be looking to attend other events or workshops in the future.

Excellent course, informative with demo's and painting tasks that increase in difficulty as each new skill is learnt. Very well organised. Warm and friendly environment, suitable for couples, singles and groups of friends. Vicki is a great teacher, who will also help throughout the day and show you how to rescue painting disasters! Enjoyed this immensely - my thanks to Vicki and Beth for a wonderful weekend.

I went to this course with a friend who is a beginner at w/c painting. We thought the organisation of the classroom , provision of all materials and teaching were excellent. We were taken through all the techniques and watched demonstrations before attempting to copy examples. Even as an experienced painter I found new things to learn but if you want to do your own thing this may not be for you.
The hotel is very comfortable the food very good and it has pleasant gardens. There is also an indoor pool and spa where we enjoyed a few treatments in our spare time.
Vicki and Beth have put a great deal of thought into the classes and are experienced teachers managing to give everyone personal attention.

Was asked to go on one of the Art Weekends by a friend and despite being awful at school in Art was up for a weekend away. What an unexpected delightful time we all had!!! Lovely venue & fantastic teachers in Vicki & Beth who made the whole art experience wonderful. Cannot recommend this Art weekend enough. As a complete water colour novice, I'm hooked and go to the weekly art classes in Broadstairs. No matter what age, sex or experience I'm sure that you will enjoy this weekend
