We have a delightful function room where we can work in comfort taking inspiration from our wild and dramatic surroundings. On fine days we can work 'en plein air' at beautiful locations around the farm and surrounding countryside.
Sea and Shore - We have access to the beautiful Cardigan Bay. Sweeping Bays and stony remote beaches. Crashing waves and atmospheric sky's. Georgian Harbours, piers and proms. Seabirds, dolphins, seals and seashells. There's plenty to inspire.
Pengwernydd Farm is surrounded by pastures grazed by our cattle and sheep. At different times of year we have a variety of wild flowers and grasses. The foxgloves will be flowering in the early summer and the livestock will be out in the fields. The artist can choose to 'home in' on the detail or incorporate the wider surroundings and grazing animals.
Llantrisant Church, Trisant
Overlooking Pengwernydd Farm, the little church is set on a hill top and commands stunning views over moorland and farmland dotted with remote cottages. The viewpoint can be the church and its ancient stones or the wider surrounding area.
Mountains and Red Kites
In the upland pastures of Pengwernydd Farm, we have amazing views across the Cambrian Mountains. Red Kites and Buzzards call and swoop in the skies above the farm. A rocky crag stands as a sentinel over the miners' cottages below and there is also a lake we can take inspiration from.
The surrounding fields are dotted with ruined buildings left over from the mining. The 'romantic ruin', a little piece of history, a glimpse into the past that has inspired many artists over time.
The animals on the farm make great life models, from the chickens to the horse. Sketching, then develop your ideas futher.
Waterfalls, Myths and Tales
Steep wooded hills, dotted with ancient hillforts, are cut by plunging watercourses. Experience a landscape steeped in history and legend. Look for evidence of past lives. Imagine the journeys made by pilgrims and monks. And then there's Hafod......... be inspired!

Last week my Granddaughter Ali and I spent a week in Mid Wales on a Painting course with Anita for the second time this year.
We enjoyed the course so much we will be returning again next year.
My sister, Margaret, and I booked in for two days Art with Anita as part of our week long break at Pengwernydd in mid Wales and ended up booking in for an extra day so we could continue to work with and learn from Anita. I have been painting for a few years and Margaret was returning to it after 30 odd years but Anita was able to help us both with the approach to take to our work and with techniques and tips to take away. I came home with three pieces that I was happy with after three days - what more can one ask ? Thanks Anita !
I spent two fantastic days with Anita in a beautiful part of Wales in the lovely studio space. Anita is a fantastic teacher, she has a wealth of artist knowledge both practical, technical and historical. I learnt new techniques, developed my own through learning and have been inspired to work in mediums I haven’t worked with for years. Anita also provided a delicious and healthy lunch, she was even able to bring almond milk for me for my coffee. I would recommend the courses with Anita, you can absorb some of her creativity, enjoy and come away with so much more inspiration than you arrived with.
My grandad and I attended a five day painting course with Anita woods in Wales. The cottage we stayed in was lovely and the art studio being on the farm we stayed on was very convenient. I am a complete beginner to painting but with Anitas help I completed three lovely paintings whilst on my course in which Anita was very helpful with lots of patience and explained and showed me different techniques on how to use and mix acrylic paint and how to use the brushes for different effects. Anita also made us homemade soup each day which was delicious. Anita is a very warm friendly lady and I look forward to having another weeks tuition by her later on this year. Very enjoyable. Thank you.
Last week my Granddaughter Ali and I attended a five day Painting workshop with Anita.
Anita's Studio is on a working farm in stunning Welsh countryside and accomadation can be booked in self catering cottages on the farm, this has the advantage of being on site 20 Mtrs from the Studio .
The Accomadation was very comfortable and clean thanks to Margaret the Farmers wife.
The big advantage we found by being on site was that we were able to use the Studio outside of course hours.
Both Ali and I are complete novices but Anita soon helped us relax and settle in.
I was amazed how much with Anita's patiance and easy teaching manner we learned in the five days.Nothing was too much trouble and if we did not understand something it was explained in simple terms that we could understand.
Anita is obviously a very talented Artist and teacher and I would sugest that you would be hard pushed to find a better location and teacher anywhere.
For conveniance we booked lunch with Anita and I am glad we did as we had wonderfull home made soup with home made bread and to round it off home made Cake.
We liked it so much we are going back later in the year.
The course went beyond my expectations. I produced work I didn't know I was capable of.
The environment was inspiring and peaceful.
I definitely will return
I stayed in pontrhydygroes, what an amazing place with stunning views, to get your inspiration going, it was fab. Anita is the most helpful, patient tutor there is, and trust me she needed to be patient with me as I was a complete novice to the art world. Highly recommend this workshop. Can't wait to return
I was staying near by Pengwernydd Farm when someone told me about Anita's workshop. I like to "dabble" so I booked in for the day. I am a beginner but with Anita's expertise and patience I came away feeling that I had achieved something. I met Margaret (farm owner) and she kindly showed me round her cottages. I booked my 2015 holiday accommodation there and then also a couple of workshops with Anita, she said as I would there as a resident if I wanted to do any more I could just slot in whenever. Can't get anymore relaxing than that and really looking forward to my holiday.
I embarked on this course as a complete novice. Anita took the to show me the basics and I now feel confident enough to have a go! I particularly enjoyed working in the beautiful surroundings in the Cambrian Mountains. It's really nice to go somewhere so beautiful that hasn't become too touristy. A fun and enjoyable day, I really feel that I have taken some new skills home with me. I intend to do another course as soon as time permits.
I thoroughly enjoyed the Art Course tutored by Anita Woods. I was taught to paint with watercolours and was very pleased with the results. I would recommend this workshop to anyone of any ability.
