Ten week architectural model making evening course at NTU. The course is aimed at professionals (and students) working in architecture or design who would like a general overview of the emerging technologies in model making.
The course will give you an overview of both laser cutting and 3D printing, with opportunities to explore materials and samples to see how each method works.
A basic knowledge of AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks is useful but not essential, but a willingness to experiment is vital.
This is course will use demonstrations, group tutorials and individual activities to explore this fascinating subject.
On this course you will:
be introduced to software including AutoCAD, Solidworks and Google SketchUp
focus on the use of 3D printing and laser cutting to produce model parts
experiment with ABS laserable filament plastic, manufactured board, cards and fabric
gain an overview of 3D printing materials available on the market
with support from the tutor and in discussion with fellow delegates, research a personal project of your choice based on your own design concept.
Your personal project could be a design concept or creative art project that you are currently working on that you wish to develop, or it could be an idea you were always itching to make a reality.
There will also be discussions about companies who can supply services that you might want to explore further.
What will I gain?
Upon completion of the course you will have an overview of digital technology in model making and the knowledge of how these can be used in your work.
