About the Course
This is an exciting workshop that takes you one step further in to drum lampshade making, by combining it with applique and machine embroidery, to create stunning and very unique lampshades.
The morning session will introduce you to the free style art of machine embroidery and applique, and you can either work on your own designs or create one from the templates available. During the afternoon session, we will allow time to show you how to make the lampshade from the kit provided.
We also advise you to bring a large plastic bag to take your lampshade safely home.
If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
What's included in the price?
You will need to bring approximately half a metre of fabric with you and lots of fabric scraps for the applique and coloured threads for the embroidery, your sewing machine and some basic haberdashery items such as scissors, tape measure etc. You will be sent a full list on booking your place. You will be inspired to go home and make lots more lampshades!
The workshop runs from 10.00 am to 4.30. Lunch will be provided, so please get in touch if you have any dietary requirements. Further details and a list of items to bring with you will be sent to you with confirmation of your place.
Upper Southwick Cottage is a beautiful location, and perfect for my small group workshops. The cottage has been renovated to a high standard and is located near Wedmore.
I enjoyed every single minute of the course.
Thank you Helen, I loved your relaxed but very attentive style of teaching. Who'd have thought we could complete a lampshade in just a few hours. A really fun and fruitful morning.

Response from Helen Izzard Designs:Thank you Laura, so glad you enjoyed the workshop. Helen
Helen was so organised, helpful and friendly. In spite of the big numbers she managed to assist everyone at the various stage they were at. It was a lovely relaxed atmosphere but we all completed our project and o feel confident to repeat another lampshade at home

An Excellent Drum Lampshade Course
Helen was consistently thorough in her communications with me prior to attending the course to ensure we all completely understood the course time, location (inc. directions) and materials required for the session.
The course was great fun and extremely good in delivering a complete and thorough understanding on how to make a drum lampshade. Helen's attention to the differing stages we were all at and checking that we were on track and had fully understood her instructions was first class. At all times her guidance was delivered in such a pleasant friendly way - it felt like a good friend was teaching you. I left feeling that I would be entirely able to make a drum lampshade on my own at home. A first class course and a brilliant teacher.
