The apple tree is a staple for many of us in Surrey. Whether it is a single cherished Bramley in the back garden or a multi-variety apple orchard, care must be given to the management of these fruit producing trees.
Join tutor Paul Ritchie in learning the best ways to time your pruning, physically trim your trees to conserve their appearance and ensure you get optimal fruit production whilst prolonging their life. We will be using a Surrey Wildlife Trust apple orchard near Guildford to demonstrate these skills.
The new ONLINE format will be set up on Zoom as follows:
Wednesday 9th December
10am-11am Live presentation about why and how to prune apple trees effectively
11:15-12noon Live walk through the orchard discussing the different tree needs depending on the age, location and species. This is followed by demonstrating various pruning techniques.
The delegates will then be tasked with using these techniques on their own trees.
Wednesday 16th December
10am -12noon Live Q&A session to discuss any issues arising from the individual pruning attempts. There will be time to talk about success stories, see before and after pictures and help to make plans for future pruning.
This online approach will offer a more interactive experience to all of the course participants. Furthermore, we will not be adversely affected by bad weather, as has happened in the past
