About the Course
This course covers the more advanced techniques of working with Adobe After Effects. Combine video, photographs, sound, text and special effects to create powerful video pieces. Go deeper and build on previous skills in this exciting, challenging and fun course.
Ideal for students who have completed the Beginners level, existing animation and filmmaking students or those who have already had some other experience of working with Adobe After Effects. This course introduces you to the more advanced concepts and skills in working with Adobe After Effects. You will gain the confidence to begin combining several elements within your projects and benefit from the powerful compositing tools in the programme. If you are not entitled to a reduced fee but are finding it difficult to pay for your course in one go, we can offer a Staged Payment Agreement to split the costs into three payments if your course(s) costs £200 or more. Please talk to a member of enrolment staff about how your payments would be structured. You are liable for all payments under this agreement, even if you stop attending your class.
By the end of the course you will be able to
You will Use Layered compositions within video
Understand how to export a finished movie
Create animated movements and transitions
Create animated text and motion graphics
Extract actors or objects from their backgrounds.
Class format and activities
You will be weekly lectured on the standard techniques and industry practises of animation.
You will create short animated pieces using exercises with room for individual interpretation, that grow in scale and ambition as the course progresses. We will continually discuss your work, and critique it for areas of improvement-
Your tutor will offer feedback on each completed project.
You will understand standard approaches and necessary skills for the compositor.
In order to ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment.
The course is suitable for complete beginners, or those with some experience in film and video-editing who want to develop their skills further or explore postproduction in new ways.Good computer skills are essential for making this course a success. Therefore, all students are expected to be confident in using a computer for tasks such as word processing, saving, managing files, browsing the internet etc. Students may benefit from enrolling on our ‘How to use a Mac computer’. This short course can be taken alongside with any of our digital design, film and photography courses and will help you to gain the confidence you need when working with digital tools.As part of the course you will be asked to read tutorials, take notes and discuss related topics, therefore, all students must be able to speak, read and write in English.
What you need to know before you enrol
Many of the Art & Design studios have limited accessibility. If you have restricted mobility please contact the Art & Design Administrator or Learning Support before enrolling.
You will be spending most of the lesson using the computers provided- this needs to considered- and breaks may be necessary if issues arrive with screen over- exposure.
What you will need for your class
Paper, pens, pencils, USB computer keys (recommend 4 Gb minimum).
Comfortable, practical clothing for working with art materials,
A computer with AE installed would be a huge advantage in terms of effective self study around classroom lessons.
