A six week course aimed at the aspiring, beginner artist, as a useful refresher for those returning to art after a break, or for artists never having had formal tuition.

Includes :- Drawing basics, advice on which materials to use, building week by week then into painting: understanding the importance of colour, colour mixing, advice on which medium, brushes, paper or canvas, planning and laying out your work, composition, how to make your paintings dynamic and much more

Each week builds further insight and practicals into the drawing and painting process through logically stepped sessions.

Course notes will be given at each session

Week 1 – Introduction todrawing. Training the eye to see

Week 2 – Get to know shapes, proportion and viewpoint – getting the drawing right!

Week 3 – Looking at light and how colour affects our painting process

Week 4 – Applying paint and how to creating a painting.

Week 5 – The painting process, - using references, steps in construction and composition

Week 6 – Developing your style and moving forward

Acrylic paint is the recommended medium.

You can turn any of our courses into a short break by staying in our on site accommodation. When you book a residential package you will get discounted accommodation in our stylish boutique hostel located in the centre of Cirencester in the Cotswolds right next door to New Brewery Arts. Our former 19th Century Cotswold stone brewery barrel store has been beautifully transformed into 21st century accommodation, light and well-appointed with a craftsman’s attention to detail. We offer guest accommodation for up to 43 people over two floors in 14 rooms, with a choice of single, bunk, family and double bedrooms, 12 with en-suite facilities. A ground floor disabled-friendly room is also available. The hostel provides a stylish communal dining and relaxation area, self-catering kitchen, laundry facilities and lockers for your bike. As with all our courses and workshops these are led by experienced tutors and as you will be part of a small group there is plenty of time to focus on you.
