An Introduction to Chinese Brush Painting with Jane Evans, Old Bank Studios

About the Course
Traditionally Chinese Brush Painting is more than a representation of an object; it is also a symbolic expression. Rather than looking at the subject as you paint, you bring it forth from your mind and heart, becoming part of nature. The aim with Chinese Brush Painting is that each brush stroke is a defining move that produces a portion of the painting that is neither improved upon nor corrected.
This introduction to the techniques and materials of traditional and modern freestyle Chinese Brush Painting will teach you how to hold the brush correctly to produce the iconic stokes, so familiar in the work. As well as practising different brush strokes, will learn how to paint Bamboo; one of the ‘Four Gentlemen’ of Chinese painting.
