"Encaustic wax Taster session with Phil Madley - Hertfordshire"
Phil is a great tutor putting you at ease learning the different techniques. I didn't expect to come out of a 2-hour session with such a selection of encaustic wax pieces made by me! Highly recommend it.

We had a wonderful day yesterday with Phil. We had never tried encaustic wax before but with Phil's expert advice we were able to produce lots of lovely picture straight away. Phil's patience, encouragement and good humour made this day the ideal birthday treat. The only problem is we can't wait to do so more!!

I recently spent a day with Phil, and although I had dabbled with the basics before, I learned so many more techniques with the various tools and hot air method. Phil made the day entertaining with his good humour, copious amounts of coffee and his
knowledg of the medium. I managed to produce a few creditable images, and really enjoyed my day.....it just didn't seem long enough. Thanks Phil.....I'll be back!

I had a great day on Phil's course and learnt lots of new techniques. Phil is an enthusiastic and encouraging tutor and has a great sense of humour. He made the creative experience fun and set the level of challenge just right. I'm hope to return to develop my skills further and use some of the more complex tools.

I have just booked onto my forth workshop with Phil, which should be a testament itself to how truly amazing he is as a tutor and how enjoyable he makes wax encaustic art!
Phil took me through the basics in the first couple of sessions, enabling me to create a beautiful landscape image and then we went through some experimental techniques with a heat gun, which is so much fun. He is ever so patient, explains things excellently (through demonstration and verbally) and has great wit, which makes him very easy company and his own encaustic art is unbelievable - he has a real talent.
If you're anything like me, you won't just want the one session, it's such an addictive art form that I'll be continuing my sessions with Phil for as long as the bank balance allows! I 100% recommend this course for anyone who wants to try a art form that's a bit different and likes experimenting.

Wow! What a course! This was my first class in encaustic wax and I was blown away! Phil has a great way of teaching - always humorous and encouraging, and his work is an inspiration! I was amazed at how quickly he taught me to do my first (fairly impressive) wax painting. I enjoyed the day so much that I've already booked my next course!
Ameeta - - #6104
I bit the bullet and booked a full day with Phil. I had never done encaustic before but by the end of the day was confident about the medium, the basic techniques and the versatility of the product. Phil explains very well with a little humour thrown in. The great thing about this was the personal nature of the tuition... Phil adapts to his clients needs and is encouraging and supportive. The day was enjoyable, fun and educational - doesn't get better than that! Even had coffee and ginger biscuits too :)

I have been trying to book a course for about 2 years but work kept getting in the way .... Finally last Friday I made it - and it was worth the wait . A great day and Phil is patient and has a great teaching style - I had produced something I was proud of in the first hour and given that I do not consider myself artistic in any way - the running joke is I can't even draw the curtains
Celia - - #5751
Had a super day - Phil made the day interesting. Its amazing what pictures you can create with wax and an iron.
Yvonne - - #5719
Spent the day with Phil, and I thoroughly enjoyed it, I've never done anything like this before and he was really encouraging and explained things well. He has a great sense of humour and in a really lovely village.
I was amazed how many techniques and styles can come out of an iron and wax and I am really impressed with everything I created, I loved that if you did something wrong you could start again so easily or go over it and do something else. He let me be creative we went down the route of things I liked the look of and he showed me some fantastic techniques to try another time.
Would highly recommend as something fun to do, I didn't get messy and I didn't burn myself!
I will be back for more without a doubt!

My son and I went for an introduction lesson in encaustic wax with Phil. My son is the artist, looking at this technique and media in support of his Art GSCE; I was a rather reluctant taxi Dad. Phil was delightful, enthusiastic and I caught the bug from him. He taught us techniques and we were quickly producing interesting and exciting pictures. Phil not only helped greatly with my son, but he unleashed an inner artist in me. We loved our time and went away with a starter kit and material. We will definitely be heading back for more instruction and guidance. A delight and I would recommend Phil to anyone who wishes to learn or like me find a new hobby/interest.

I chose this course as it has a five star rating by other folk who have been on Phil's course and I was not disappointed. I went with my 13 year old daughter for a fun, creative day out and we had a fantastic time. Everything the blurb says is true! It is quick, easy and the results are amazing. Phil is so patient and the beauty of just being the 2 of us is that you can go at your own speed. We travelled down from Lincolnshire and the course was worth every penny. I would highly recommend Phil to anyone. His years of experience in both the encaustic wax and teaching really show and made it a brilliant day. Thanks Phil.
Helen Smith - - #2178
I did a 1-2-1 taster class with Phil and had an very enjoyable day. He has a very fun teaching style and fitted lots into the day. I left having learnt many techniques and had plenty of time to practice under his excellent supervision! I will definitely be returning to do more classes. Thank you Phil, you are a true inspiration.

Just back from my third encaustic wax session with Phil finding the time spent to be exciting and creative in a different sort of way. Phil is an excellent and patient tutor with a good sense of humour. I'm learning new techniques every time we visit, coming away with pleasing results each time.
Pat Culley - - #1447
I've been having lessons with Phil for the last few months, having never tried encaustic art before. I have found Phil to be a very involving and innovative instructor who can always find new ways to inspire and instruct a novice to create pieces of art. My sessions with him have enabled me to produce some works that have been admired by many. His sense of humour is infectious and makes the time spent learning with him a pleasure. I would highly recommend Phil's courses to anyone wishing to learn more about this absorbing art medium.
Sylvia Dodds - - #1436
Did the 4 hour session. Had an excellent time, for me learning a new art form in a very friendly, relaxed atmosphere. I learnt lots & produced work that has been admired by family. Phil is an excellent teacher & very encouraging. I enjoyed all the techniques shown.Would highly recommend & I would go back for additional sessions.
Vicky White - - #1116
My wife and I did this together. Excellent value and Phil is so encouraging, patient and an excellent teacher. For two complete novices to be able to each do and take home pictures of such quality using the techniques that we were shown was truly amazing. I have never enjoyed doing art as much before in my life. We lost all track of time and we are getting Phil’s starter kit and will definitely be having more sessions with Phil. It was a shame the session had to end; we both switched off and became absorbed in this art form. Thanks again for a great time Phil. ...
Richard Mussett - - #595
Have been going to Phil for encaustic wax sessions for about two years. Wax painting/designing is so creative and Phil comes up with new techniques all the time. What excites me is the creativity it produces. I love all the techniques. Phil is a great exponent and an excellent teacher.
Ann Clark - - #520
Did the 2 hour (+!) taster course with Phil followed by a morning and afternoon top-up. Really excellent value, learning from an expert in a relaxed friendly, easy going environment. Learned a lot and produced work which was much admired by the drawing/painting class I attend and more importantly, by my wife! Wholeheartedly recommend Phil to you. (And the pub next door serves a really good pint!)
