About the Course

Techniques include burnishing and the use of terra sigilatta, naked and horsehair/feather raku, ferric fuming, and saggars. The workshop is most suitable for participants with at least a basic experience of working with clay who want to know more about these 'alternative' techniques. The 'Original' workshop is not primarily aimed at producing finished work but intended to give participants experience of different methods of achieving surface markings which they can then employ in their own work. .

John Evans will be leading the workshop. His work using alternative raku techniques is widely known in the UK and articles about his techniques have featured in 'Ceramic Review', 'Craft and Design' magazine and international publications. The workshop hours are 10.00 am - 5.00 pm, except that on the final day we will finish after lunch.

If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above. The voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.

What's included in the price?

All tools and materials are included but participants are asked to bring simple bisqued work. Tea and coffee are freely available and the price includes an excellent two-course lunch each day. Some free camping is available on site.
