Join Giles for a one day woodcarving workshop in his purpose built indoor / outdoor studio space in the Lancashire countryside. Share his sources of inspiration, his tools and his wood in a small carving group of up to only four people. During this workshop you will learn about the design methods and advanced knife techniques that Giles has developed. Building on your existing knowledge and experience of carving by knife, Giles will share with you insights into designing complex and highly detailed wood art, harnessing the strengths of the wood as well as planning the different stages of your carving process and developing your ability to visualise your designs in three dimensions.
Stepping away from the conventional ‘end-product-focused’ approach of most courses, this one day workshop will focus entirely on the carving process itself, the skills, the techniques, and reflecting on how each aspect may be put into practice in your own future projects. Subjects and techniques covered in the workshop include advanced detail carving, decorative carving, texture creation, carving facial features, carving flora and carving in naturalistic, figurative and abstract styles.
The workshop is suitable for people with some past experience of carving by knife*. If you are unsure whether this workshop is suitable for you, please get in touch via the contact page before booking. All tools and wood will be provided.
Places on this workshop are limited to 4 to ensure you get the most out of your day.

Just come back from a course with Giles and I must say it was absolutely fantastic. Giles and his lovely wife make you welcome and at ease from the start. The way Giles engages with you and how he explains the methods he uses are easy to follow. Never having done any wood carving before it was great having someone to encourage you and also taking the time to show you how to solve small mistakes was refreshing.
Thank you so much.
