Description
Batik is an ancient textile technique originating in Indonesia and its use then spread to many other countries, with each putting a different cultural slant on the choice of images and their outcomes. The pattern is applied onto cloth using molten wax with fine brushes or tools called tjantings, before coloured dyes are applied to the fabric. As a textile designer, Alison Butler used this process on paper, to create highly original and decorative textile designs for the fashion industry and for a number of years, she has run Beautiful Batik on Paper and on Fabric as part of our Art in the Barn workshops. A number of people have completed our Beautiful Batik on Paper workshop and our Batik on Fabric workshop and have asked to explore the process on a more advanced level, hence a new creative opportunity for you to explore. During your workshop, you will build on the techniques that you have learned, to create more samples and unique outcomes using a variety of papers to create different effects. Your outcomes will make beautiful and decorative wall pieces, suitable to be stretched on frames or boards or mounted under glass. You may choose to work with the themes of Florals or Abstract Pattern, or perhaps take inspiration from different cultural images; alternatively, you may wish to develop ideas of your own choosing. The workshop will be delivered by Alison Butler of Blooming Designs. With over 25 years as a textile designer and illustrator, Alison will skill fully guide you through a range of exciting approaches. We have a choice of 2 venues on our working farm in The South Downs National Park. The Stables provides a more intimate venue, whilst our adjacent thatched Long Barn suits a larger group. This workshop is suitable for those looking to improve and extend their batik skills. Please bring along: an apron, ideas and images relating to your chosen theme and an A3 folder to transport your work home.
