About the Course
Make the most out of the top-two photography software programmes in one intensive course - for people with busy lives! Aimed at beginners or those wishing to improve their skills.
Learn bulk photo management, post-production and editing workflow using Adobe Lightroom plus powerful image manipulation and digital artworking with Photoshop. Edit and perfect your uploaded images in an intuitive way, organising, post producing and sharing them quickly and efficiently with Lightroom. Combine these skills in Photoshop for more post-production and layered digital artworking and you will explore the creative power of both the programmes. The course provides a solid introduction to the two industry-standard photography programmes. After completing this course you can continue honing your Adobe Software skills through our 'Adobe Pack' courses in Design, Publishing, Video, and Web Design. If you are not entitled to a reduced fee but are finding it difficult to pay for your course in one go, we can offer a Staged Payment Agreement to split the costs into three payments if your course(s) costs £200 or more.
Please talk to a member of enrolment staff about how your payments would be structured. You are liable for all payments under this agreement, even if you stop attending your class. As a student of Morley College you are also entitled to a discount on Adobe CC Software. Your tutor can advise you on how to apply for this.
By the end of the course you will be able to
Learn and develop software skills in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom
Make an image library, cataloging a large number of images, including making collections, rating, using metadata and keywording
Professionally develop Images, including retouching, adjustments to colour temperature, tone curves, black and white, sharpening etc
Export images including making slideshows, producing print via home printers and sending images to web and imaging specialists
Use presets to streamline your workflow
Produce images of high technical quality and produce collections of work
Learn to use Photoshop and Lightroom in conjunction with eachother for best results
Class format and activities
During each class you will work on using different aspects of the software with tuition and guidance from the tutor, gaining new skills each week to help you edit your own images to a professional standard.
A busy and productive class taught in a professional, well-equipped photography studio. The class will be taught via a mix of presentation, active learning exercises, demonstrations, hand-outs, step-by-step instructions, pair working and group discussion. One to one tuition will be given to help develop ideas and skills and project work assigned to help you progress. The tutor will give demonstrations, presentations and lead group discussions around technical and creative subjects as well as provide assessment and feedback on your progress. Projects will regularly be given to allow for the sharing of your progress, some use of web-based presentation tools will be encouraged.
In order to ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment.
The course is suitable for complete beginners, or those with some experience in image editing software who want to learn how to manage, edit and optimise images using Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom. A keen interest in the subject is key to your success and the ability to attend the sessions regularly to get the most out of the course. As part of the course you will be asked to read tutorials, take notes, listen to instructions and discuss related topics, therefore students should have a reasonable level of skill in speaking, reading and writing in English. This course can be taken alongside with any of our digital design, film and photography courses and will help you to gain the confidence you need when working with digital tools for design and publication.
What you need to know before you enrol
The studio contains Apple MacBooks for uploading and working with images. It would be helpful if you have some familiarity with Macintosh computers and know how to use standard menus and commands, however this is not an essential requirement as these skills can be picked up during the course. The studio also has cameras and lenses which may be used by students while in class. As part of the course you will be asked to read tutorials, take notes, listen to instructions and discuss related topics, therefore students should have a reasonable level of skill in speaking, reading and writing in English. You may wish to revise and practise at home to reinforce what you have learned during the lesson. Information about computers and relevant software will be provided by the tutor. Many of the Art & Design studios have limited accessibility. If you have restricted mobility please contact the Art & Design Administrator before enrolling.
What you will need for your class
Recommended is a storage device such as USB Memory Stick (minimum 8GB) or mini-hard drive. This is for storage of media during the course and of your work at the end. It would be beneficial to your studies if you possess the software for use at home. As a student of Morley College you are entitled to a discount on Adobe CC Software. Your tutor can advise you on how to apply for this.
