About the Course
A fun 3 days full of the different techniques of acrylic painting , having the excuse of painting pictures is always fun, to explore how art is created from composition and how, to approach the subject, and the technique is related to each other.
Using seascapes, landscapes and still life subjects the artist can be direct, technical in drawing or expressive in how they can say what they feel about the subject they are portraying. Mark the tutor will demonstrate all the techniques and will always be on hand to help in the studio and side by side paint with you his painting so you can see the painting progress.
A combination of canvas and heavy weight paper is used to paint on to explore how these surfaces can give a feel to the painting. All materials is provided for.
Each day there is a change of subject to challenge you and inspire the artist the paint with expression and confidence.
Morning. Boats on the beach. How the combination of man- made boats and the natural world can be portrayed together with expression and bright colour with the brush on canvas.
Afternoon. Crashing sea on the rocks. See how the action of the sea can be caught with vigour and exciting movement, a challenge to any artist, on paper.
Morning. Still life Jugs, Bowls and Fruit ,The stable subject of all still life, but is all in the shapes and colour, a good one to start with. Brush on paper.
Afternoon. A more jumble with chairs, Books and assorted objects. Palette knife on canvas.
Morning. the winter trees .The classic landscape see how the palette knife comes into its own, it this subject matter. On canvas.
Afternoon, The distant town. Using both the knife and brush how quick and effective you can produce a classic landscape with style and confidence.
You can turn any of our courses into a short break by staying in our on site accommodation. When you book a residential package you will get discounted accommodation in our stylish boutique hostel located in the centre of Cirencester in the Cotswolds right next door to New Brewery Arts. Our former 19th Century Cotswold stone brewery barrel store has been beautifully transformed into 21st century accommodation, light and well-appointed with a craftsman’s attention to detail. We offer guest accommodation for up to 43 people over two floors in 14 rooms, with a choice of single, bunk, family and double bedrooms, 12 with en-suite facilities. A ground floor disabled-friendly room is also available. The hostel provides a stylish communal dining and relaxation area, self-catering kitchen, laundry facilities and lockers for your bike. As with all our courses and workshops these are led by experienced tutors and as you will be part of a small group there is plenty of time to focus on you.
