Abigail Mill – Creative Machine Embroidery
Contact course provider
About the Course
My style is very distinctive and I use a self developed technique of layering up sheer backgrounds and hand dyed printed cottons, combined with free motion machine embroidery to create landscapes and other imagery. I leave the fabric edges raw and frayed and more recently have been interested in creating three dimensional forms. The overall effect looks ethereal and my medium is sometimes confused with watercolour, when viewed from a distance. My artwork is a little whimsical and nostalgic which makes people smile and reminds them of their holidays, which can’t be a bad thing!

What's included in the price?
On the first day Abigail will run through the basics of machine embroidery and get you set up on your machine ready to ’draw in sewing’. You will need to bring along your own sewing machine, with your sewing box with threads, pins, scissors etc.You will also need to make sure that your sewing machine can be converted to ’Free motion machining’ by using a dawning food and lowering the feed dogs. Abigail will run through exercises on machine tension, working with various threads, working with mixed fabrics, appliqué techniques, and preparation of fabrics for your final piece.
This is where the fun begins! Armed with the knowledge of the previous days sampling, this day is all about self development. The aim is to leave with a finished piece of embroidery that reflects your own style and colour palette. In order to do this you will need to be inspired by your own source materials. You will need to bring with you any photographs, post cards, sketches or greetings cards with inspiring imagery. Abigail would also encourage you to bring along your collections of fabrics and trimmings for that personal touch.
Refreshments included but not lunch.
