About the Course

Absolutely no experience necessary, this one-day introduction to watercolour landscape will start in the classroom learning about colour mixing, tone, how to introduce life into your work, layering your paint working from light to dark. Later in the day you will be outdoors painting trees, water and structures in the grounds of FSC Epping Forest. Linda’s teaching is not 'step-by-step' thus allowing her to tutor a group of mixed abilities; she will demonstrate a technique or subject and you will then have a go. Her painting techniques follow traditional rules which she believes you have to know before you break them!

About the Tutor:
Linda Matthews has worked as a full time artist and tutor for over 17 years - she divides her time between Norfolk and L’Herault in France. Inspired by everything around her, she prefers painting en plein air - out of doors, from life. Working professionally in most media she is not a 'paint- along' instructor; Linda will encourage you to gain confidence, using traditional techniques to develop your own style. A qualified tutor, Linda writes for Leisure Painter & has led courses for Artist & Illustrator Magazine she is a Professional Associate of the Society of all Artist’s. As well as her own workshops & holidays Linda leads courses at Flatford Mill & Epping Forest for the Field Studies Council. She has appeared in local & national press as well as on radio & television.

The morning will be spent painting indoors, including watercolours with and without drawing, looking at skies, trees, water, tone, perspective and creating movement with your brush marks.
The afternoon will be spent outdoors painting the landscape including trees, water and structures, learning how to create layers and distance in your painting.
Disclaimer: All timings are approximate. This is an outline programme and may be subject to change according to the weather, requirements of the group or access restrictions to field sites on the day of the course.
